Ina Faye Murphy

    Ina Faye Murphy, age 73, of Stevens Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, following a long illness.
    She was born January 11, 1951, in Jackson County, and was the daughter of the late Elmer and Rosetta Isaacs Marcum. She was a CMA for the Central Baptist Hospital, and she was a member of the Drip Rock Baptist Church. She had lived in Estill County for most of her life.
    Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her husband, Glyndon Murphy, and she is survived by one daughter, Melissa Isaacs of Estill County; five sisters, Geraldine Fowler of Estill County; Opal Hogeback of Ohio; Anna Lee Farthing, Arlene Clark, and Sheila Cox, all of Estill County; four grandchildren, Jacob Murphy, Adrian Rogers, Ashley Isaacs, and Aaron Isaacs; and eight great grandchildren.
    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Wanda Barker; and four brothers, Eugene, Farris, Kenneth, and Elmer Jr. Marcum.
    Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, February 27, 2024, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Keith Carr officiating. Burial will be at the Marcum Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lisa Karen Cole

    Lisa Karen Cole, age 59, of Trotting Ridge Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at her home following a sudden illness.
    She was born September 3, 1964, in Perry County and was the daughter of the late Burley Moore and Cassie Combs Moore Compton. She worked as a nurse at the Irvine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Cole is survived by her husband, Thomas Dwayne Cole; her stepfather, Danny Compton of Pulaski County; one sister, Rita Hunter of Madison County; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were conducted Saturday, February 24, 2024, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Anthony Cruse officiating. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Visitation was held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Pallbearers were Adam Hunter, Aaron Hunter, Danny Compton, Tyler Hoskins, Harold Spears, and Billy Caudill.

    Tony Dwayne Murphy, age 57, of New Fox Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, February 19, 2024, at his home following a short illness.
    He was born March 17, 1966, in Estill County, and was the son of the late Bobby Gene Murphy and Carolyn Sue Dawes Murphy. He was a Sawyer for Powell Valley Sawmill and attended the Irvine First Church of God. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife, Gina Michelle Freeman Murphy; one daughter: Amber Skaggs (Robert) of Madison County; one son, Brandon Murphy of Estill County; one brother, Mike Murphy of Estill County; and one grandson, Avery James Skaggs.
    Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 23, 2024, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Rose-Freeman Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. to service time at 1 p.m.
    Pallbearers are Gary Freeman, Jeff Freeman, Ezra Freeman, Robert Skaggs, Marty Brandenburg, and Noah Freeman.

Christine "Teenie" Patrick

    Christine "Teenie" Patrick (nee Powell) of Liberty Township, Ohio, earned her crown of jewels on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at the age of 96. A gift indeed, Teenie was born on Christmas Eve in 1927 to Ancil and Lillie Mae (nee Snowden) Powell.
    The last of her siblings, Teenie served as the matriarch for not just her children and grandchildren, but for all her nieces and nephews as well. A servant of God, Christine was an active member of Breiel Church. Over the years she served in numerous ministries there and elsewhere in the Church of God. As a charter member of the Liberty Twp. Historical Society and the Liberty Twp. Garden Club, Teenie created many lifelong friendships. Perhaps she is best known for baking the best sourdough bread known to man. Teenie will be forever loved and cherished by all that knew her.
    Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Ancil and Lillie Mae Powell; husband, Earl Byrum Patrick; a son, Bill Patrick; siblings, Lola Mastin, Lizzie Brookshire, Leora Witt, Zella Berry, and Glynn Powell; and a grandson-in-law, Jeffrey Friedman.
    Christine is survived by her children, Christy Henry (Johnny), Byrum Patrick (Brian Hickey), and Lisa Gormas (Paul), a daughter-in-law, Ann Margaret Patrick; grandchildren, David Warren (Beki), Karen Patrick (Sue Henry), Angela Garvey (KC), Sonia Bach, Roger Henry, Susan Patrick (Lisa), Sara Patrick, Annie Cantrell (Justin), Laura Jeltema (Jamie), Katie Kirklin (Jason), Angie Gormas, and Christy Gormas; numerous great grandchildren; and many loving family members and friends.
    Visitation will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 from 5-7 p.m., at Breiel Church, 2000 N Breiel Blvd., Middletown, Ohio 45042. Funeral Service will be Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 10:00 am at Breiel Church. Interment will immediately follow in Jackson Chapel UMC Cemetery, Irvine, Kentucky.
    Christine loved all flowers, but donations may also be made to the Joy Circle at Breiel Church.

Amanda Beth Mills Gerber

    Amanda Beth Mills Gerber, age 44, of George Martin Avenue in Georgetown, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024, in Georgetown.
    She was born January 22, 1979, in Fayette County, and was the daughter of Ray Mills and the late Janie Martin. She worked at the Peddlers Mall in Georgetown, and she attended the Rice Station Christian Church. She earned a Black Belt in Karate and she had lived in Georgetown for most of her life.
    In addition to her father, she is survived by one daughter, Taylor Gerber of Georgetown; one son, Dustin Gerber of Estill County; and two sisters, Crissy Davis and Kim Emmert, both of Estill County.
    In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by one brother, Israel Mills; and one niece Bribri Mills.
    A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, February 22, 2024, 6 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry McIntosh officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m.

Elmer Wade Johnson

    Elmer Wade Johnson, age 72, known as “Butch”, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Baptist Health – Richmond.
    Butch was born on August 31, 1951, the son of the late Elmer & Gladys Shifflet Johnson. At the age of 6, he moved to Kentucky with his family and was forever “from Kentucky”. Butch enjoyed fishing & going to auctions, but work was really his true hobby and he was proud to be an 18-wheel truck driver for both RTI and most recently associated with Hurricane Express, Inc.
    Survivors include his wife, Becky Johnson; two children, Marissa Johnson and Dustin “DJ” Johnson; three grandchildren, Aliyah Lamb, Khloe Lamb and Waylon Johnson; one sister, Sue McKinney; one half-sister, Janet Johnson; as well as a host of other family and friends.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Debbie Figg.
    Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2024, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, Richmond, with Bro. Jeff Marcum officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home.

Nellie Anita Alcorn

    Nellie Anita Alcorn, born on June 15, 1947, in Estill, Kentucky, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, February 15, 2024. She was 76 years old.
    She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Alcorn, her granddaughter, Emalee Mariam Alcorn; her parents, Arthur and Susie Watson; her brothers, Arthur Jr., Harold, Lynwood, and Donald Watson; and her sisters, Francie Spring and Wavelene Taulbee.
    Mrs. Alcorn is survived by her two sons, Fred Alcorn (Jamie) and James Alcorn (Tracey); her grandsons, Brandon Alcorn (Tyrie), Jordan Alcorn, and Justin Alcorn; her great grandson, Landon Alcorn; her sister, Juanita Tipton; and her brothers, Gene Watson (Eva), Elzy Watson (Innas), and Paul Watson; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
    Nellie was a true Proverbs 31 woman. She was devoted to the Lord and to her church, Towne Boulveard Church of God. Even in her final days, her confidence in the Lord remained steady. She often reminded her family that God was in control and she knew where she was going. As much as she was devoted to the Lord, she was devoted to her family. The kind of deep, sacrificial love she held for them was unmatched. She had a way of making her family and friends feel so special and loved. She will be sincerely missed, but her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who love her.
    Visitation will be held at Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 East 2nd Street in Franklin, Ohio, on Monday, February 26, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 27th, at 12:00 Noon. The service will be performed by Pastor Duane Harney of Community Harvest Church and Pastor Mark Jackson of Towne Boulevard Church of God.

    A Memorial Service for Arthur Rawlins will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2024 at White Oak Church of God, White Oak Road in Irvine, Kentucky.
    Join Arthur's family and friends to memorialize his passing in 2021 and celebrate his life on his birthday.
    The Memorial Service will be followed by a gathering at the WigWam at 3 p.m.

    Arthur Rawlins was born March 7, 1941 and died in Winchester, Kentucky on March 9, 2021. He was an 80-year-old veteran of the 101st Airborne, IBM retiree, Shriner, Mason, VFW, American Legion and Vietnam Veteran.
    A lifetime rock and roller, he loved Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Little Richard and doo-wop. He was a fan of UK basketball and an aficionado of classic cars, skilled in the restoration of them and jukeboxes.
    He is survived by his spouse, Rachel E Rawlins; children, Danny Vaughn, Tina Rawlins and Belinda Rawlins; and grandchildren, Jocelyn Rawlins and Athena Vaughn.

    Mattie Lou Crawford, age 84, passed away Monday, February 19, 2024 at her home.
    She was born March 12, 1939 in Estill County to the late Roy and Alfa Bailey Dickerson.
    Survivors include two sons, Clifford Crawford and Jord T. Crawford; four daughters, Connie Clemmons, Linda Sams, Sherry Goolman, and Vickie Brinegar; three brothers, Lowell Dickerson, Wayne Dickerson, and Doyle Dickerson; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert Dickerson and James Dickerson; and a sister, Wanda Dickerson

Lieutenant Charles Spicer, Jr.

    Lieutenant Charles Spicer, Jr., age 52, of Roberts Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, following a short illness.
    He was born July 12, 1971, and was the son of Wanda Brinegar and the late Charles Spicer, Sr. He was an employee of the City of Irvine and served as a Lieutenant with the Ravenna Fire Department. He had worked as a firefighter and member of the Rescue Squad for 32 years. He was also the owner and operator of Spicer’s Unlocking Service.
    Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Ella Marie Fox Spicer; one daughter, Angel Ramos of Estill County; three stepsons, Jesse Chaney (Jessica), Jason Chaney (Pam), and Jacob Chaney (Darla), all of Estill County; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
    In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jesse James Spicer.
    Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 21, 2024, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Scott Rogers officiating. Burial will be at the Campbell Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    David Congleton, age 60, husband of Tammy Congleton, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024 at Jewish Hospital, Louisville.
    He was born September 5, 1963 in Campton, Kentucky to the late Elmo and Wandella Willoughby Congleton.
    Survivors include his wife, Tammy Congleton; sons, Josh Congleton (Ashley) and Andrew Jones; a daughter, Stephanie Townsend (Robbie); brothers, Darrell Congleton and Danny Rogers; a sister, Michelle Vance (Jerry); grandchildren, McKinnley Townsend, Bentley Congleton, Skylar Townsend, Kendalyn Townsend, Abigail Congleton, and Colton Townsend; and an uncle, Larry Willoughby.

Harold Duane Spencer

    Harold Duane Spencer, age 83, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024, at his home on Halls Branch Road, Stanton, Kentucky.
    He was born on April 24, 1940, in Nada, Kentucky, to the late Benjamin Franklin Spencer and the late Lela Morton Spencer.
    Duane was a United States Air Force veteran who served eight years in several different locations as a fireman, retiring with the rank of Senior Airman. He was employed as a civilian for 23 years as a fireman at the McClellan Air Force Base in California. He was a great outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt, ride his four-wheeler, and take long hikes. Duane would help anyone and everybody and tried his best at everything he did.
    In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Retha Doreth Spencer and Laura Annetta Ewen; and five brothers, Wilford Ray Spencer, Kenneth Edsel Spencer, Shadwick Leon Spencer, Ellis Spencer and Nathaniel Spencer.
    Duane is survived by one daughter, Melissa Marie Spencer of Maryville, California; one special daughter, Christina Ann Clifton, Yuba City, California; one sister, Karon Eloise Ballenger of Louisiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    Memorial services will be conducted at 7 p.m., on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, with military honors performed at the conclusion of the memorial service. Visitation will be held on Thursday also, beginning at 6 p.m. until service time.

Atwood Winkle

    Atwood Winkle age 84, of Winchester, Kentucky, formerly of Irvine, departed this life on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the VA Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
    He was born in Irvine, Kentucky on April 9,1939 to the late Charlie and Loutisha Cox Winkle.
    In addition to his parents Mr. Winkle is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Carlene Click Winkle; two brothers, Edgar and Ronald W. Winkle; and three sisters, Irene Lowry, Louise Winkler, and Alpha Wilson.
    Mr. Winkle served in the United States Army in Germany, Mississippi, Georgia and Alabama. He was a member of the Ruckerville Church of Christ for over 30 years, served as youth director for 25 years. and pastor at Antioch Christian Church for 20 years.
    Survivors include one brother, Lowell Winkle; a special niece, Vonda Vermillion (Albert), along with numerous other nieces and nephews, a special friend, Barbara, and numerous other relatives and friends to miss and mourn his passing.
    Funeral services for Atwood Winkle were conducted on February 19, 2024, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals with Brother Allen Epperson officiating. Interment followe in the Crowe Cemetery. The family received friends from 12 Noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Serving as pallbearers were Jarrod and Terry Winkle, Ethan and Van Vermillion, and Colin and Trenton Reddix. Honorary pallbearers were Chad, Jeremy, Jeff and Karen Trennepohl; Sonya Reddix, Julie Winkle and Erica Gazdik.
    Military honors were provided by American Legion Post #79 at the Cemetery.

Maxine Tipton Sparks

    With heavy hearts but also profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Maxine Tipton Sparks of Mount Sterling, Kentucky, who peacefully departed this world on February 15, 2024 at the age of 93.
    She was born on January 7, 1931, in Ravenna, Kentucky, to the late Clyde, Sr. and Merrell Griggs Tipton.
    Maxine was a dedicated member of Howards Mill Baptist Church, where she found comfort and support in her faith. She had a strong work ethic and spent many years employed at A.O. Smith Corporation. Her dedication to her job was a testament to her drive and determination. Her personality brought laughter and inspiration to all who knew her. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and watching birds, especially hummingbirds. Maxine enjoyed reading a variety of books, especially her Bible, which she read daily. She also had a passion for hosting and attending yard sales, always on the lookout for hidden treasures or sharing stories with fellow enthusiasts. In her later years, Maxine found joy in attending the weekly luncheon for senior citizens at the Civic Center. Surrounded by friends and laughter, she embraced life fully, cherishing every moment.
    Maxine's warm and encouraging nature made her the heart of the family. She loved spending time with her devoted son, Andy Sparks (Karen) of Mt. Sterling; her loving daughters, Ramona Hudson (Steve) of Paris, Pam Jones (Tom) of Frankfort, and Debbie Dorton of Lexington; grandchildren, Michael Jones (Jessica) of Mt. Sterling, Brent Hudson (Laurie) of Richmond, Leah Shannon Church (Russell) of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; Nathan Jones (Katie) of Frankfort, Blake Hudson (Traci) of Mason, Ohio; Breck Dorton (Leighanne) of Greenville, South Carolina; Will Dorton (Nicole) and Abbie Thornberry (Michael), both of Lexington; 16 great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren. Together, they created treasured memories that will endure for generations to come.
    In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Rodney Sparks; her infant son, Eddie Sparks; a son-in-law, Richard Dorton; as well as her siblings, Lucille Tipton, Clyde Tipton, Jr., Edward Tipton, Vernon Tipton and James Tipton.
    A celebration of Maxine's life will take place on Saturday, February 24, 2024. The memorial service will be held at Sterling Meadows Reception Hall at 2 p.m., followed by a reception at 3 p.m.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to Howards Mill Baptist Church 4435 Howards Mill Road, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky 40353.

    Judith Ann Rogers, age 65, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, Kentucky. She was born April 26, 1958 in Warren, Ohio to the late Paul W. and Mary Fay Collins Bungard.
    Judy was an active member of the Clay City United Methodist Church and enjoyed mentoring women at Liberty Place Recovery Center for Women.
    Survivors include her husband, Glyn Rogers; two sons, Derrick Rogers (Sarah) and Bryan Rogers (Danielle Burton); grandchildren, Sophia Rogers and Olivia Rogers; her mother-in-law, Alma Lee; and nieces and nephews, Dale Bungard (Hope), Doug Bungard (Sarah), Jane Phillips (JJ), Josh Schnieder (Jess), and Jake Schnieder (Lindsay).
    She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dale Bungard; and a sister, Carol Schnieder.

    Earl Wayne Bishop Jr., age 55, of Wisemantown Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at the Marcum and Wallace Hospital, following a long illness.
    He was born October 5, 1968, in Estill County and was the son of Earl Wayne Bishop Sr. and Carolyn Sue Scenters Bishop. He was a Welder and of the Holliness Faith. He had lived in Estill County for all of his life.
    In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Russell Bishop of Estill County and Tony Bishop of Hamilton, Ohio; one niece, Courtney King (John); one nephew, Micah Bishop (Karleigh); two great nephews, Lucian King and Connor Bishop; and two special friends, Mike Robinson and Dellie Shuler.
    He was preceded in death by his sister, Penelope Faith “Penny” Bishop.
    A memorial service was conducted Saturday, February 17, 2024, 2 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Hager officiating. Visitation was held on Saturday from 12 Noon to 2 p.m.

    Mary LaVeta Moore, 72, wife of A.C. Moore, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at her home.
    She was born October 5, 1951 in Kingman, Arizona, to the late Everett and Ruth Baker Milam. Mary was co-owner of WSKV Moore Country radio station.
    Survivors include her husband, A.C. Moore; children, Juleah Bricker (Kurt), Ethan Moore (Katie), and Jessalyn Whitaker (Eric); and grandchildren, Marissa Bricker, Eliana Bricker, Kyleigh Bricker, Elias Whitaker, Isaiah Whitaker, and Hannah Campbell.
    Services were held Saturday, February 17, 2024, 12 Noon, at Wells Funeral Home by Bro. Jason Johnson. Visitation was held Saturday after 10 a.m. until service time. Burial was in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East, Grayson, Kentucky.

    Lana Richardson, age 62, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at her home.
    She was born August 15, 1961 in Campton, Kentucky, to the late Greenberry Noble and the late Judy Parkhill.
    Survivors include, a son, Brian Richardson; a daughter Trish Richardson; three sisters, Sherri Spencer, April Lawson, and Penni McClure; grandchildren, Brianna Pugh, Keylin Richardson, Kendrick Richardson, and Elliott Noble; and a great granddaughter, Kinleigh Grace Richardson.
    Graveside services were held Saturday, Febuary 17, 2024, 3 p.m., at Evans Cemetery, Campton with Derek Morguson, Neal Spencer, Colby Strange, Kyle Strange, James Grizzel, and Brad King.

James Haney

    James Haney, age 73, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024, at his home in Jeffersonville, Kentucky. He was born on June 24, 1950, in Grassy Creek, Kentucky, to the late Ellno Haney and the late Ruth Lawhorn Haney.
    James worked as a mechanic and truck driver for Addington Brothers in Martin County. He enjoyed tinkering on old cars, especially 1953 and 1954 models.
    In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by one sister, Melinda Haney.
    James is survived by one daughter, Teresa Haney; two brothers: Robert Haney (Brenda) and Tom Haney, both of Grayson; and three sisters: Mamie Haney, Charlene Haney, and Betsy Jordan (Lawrence), all of Grayson; and two grandchildren.
    A private burial was conducted at West Bend Cemetery.
    Arrangements were entrusted to Hearne Funeral Home of Stanton.

Mary Marie “Mimi” Sparks Tucker

    Mary Marie “Mimi” Sparks Tucker age 73, of Irvine, Kentucky transitioned to her heavenly home on Monday, February 12th, 2024, surrounded by her five grandchildren whom she adored.
    She retired from Kentucky Department of Transportation, previously worked as a health-care professional at the Estill County Senior Citizens’ Center, owned Mimi’s Fabric Shop and was a gifted seamstress. Throughout her professional career(s) she built many lifelong friendships that she valued greatly.
    Mimi was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Sue Sparks; and her in-laws, Bill and Chic Tucker.
    She is survived by her husband of 55 years, William Cole “Bill” Tucker; a sister Kathy Finney (Bobby); and Pleas McIntosh - the brother she never had, in addition to the McIntosh brothers.
    Her love of cooking for family and friends will be carried on by her three children, William Cole “Budd” Tucker (Tammy), Kenneth Lynn “Kenny” Tucker (Mickey), and Elizabeth Kathleen “Katie” Ferrell (Robbie); and a bonus son, Terry Fitzgerald Carroll (Sonya); five grandchildren, Whitney Shae Young (David), Michael Boone Tucker, Emily Maxine Osborne (Tyler), Kenton Dean Tucker, and Daniel Cole Ferrell; and two bonus grandsons, Austin Grant Howell (Andika, Link, Jeremih) abd Charles “Charlie” Brenton Howell; Kimberly Finney (niece), Robbie Finney (nephew), and Brack Finney (nephew).
    Mimi was a life-long member of Ravenna Christian Church and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Mimi will always be remembered for her remarkable cooking talent, love for animals, service to veterans, and devotion to her family and friends.
    The family received friends from 11 a.m., Thursday, February 15, 2024 until the time of service at 1 p.m. at Lewis Home for Funerals with Brother Tony White officiating. Interment followed in the Oakdale Cemetery.
    Pallbearers were Whitney Ferrell, Boone Tucker, Emily Ferrell, Dean Tucker, Cole Ferrell, Terry Carroll, Pleas McIntosh, Terry Webb, Kendall Baber, and Billy Wiseman.
    In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to Marcum & Wallace Foundation in support of the Angel Cart.

Melvin Mansfield

    Melvin Mansfield, age 88, a resident of Madison Health and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the Center following a long illness.
    He was born February 27, 1935, and was the son of the late Francis Millard Mansfield and Myrtle Modell Short Mansfield. He was a general laborer and a member of the Corinth Christian Church. He had lived in Estill County for most of his life.
    Mr. Mansfield is survived by his special niece and caregiver, Vickie Wood.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Mildred Wood, Alsie Merritt, Mae Richardson, and Pearl Freeman; and six brothers, Ronald Clay, Gene, Junior, Clyde, Earl, and Roy Mansfield.
    Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, February 13, 2024, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at the Johnny Richardson Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    Katherine St. Clair, a devoted social worker and cherished member of the Mt. Vernon community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the age of 68.
    Born on January 4, 1956, in Berea, Kentucky, she dedicated her life to serving others selflessly.
    Katherine, a proud alumna of Eastern Kentucky University, served as a compassionate social worker for the state of Kentucky, touching countless lives through her work. Her kind spirit and unwavering commitment to those in need were an inspiration to many. She was a faithful member of Roundstone Baptist Church.
    Her memory will be treasured by her loving daughter, Jaclyn St. Clair Shoop, and son-in-law, Langdon; her beloved granddaughter, Delpha Claire Shoop; and her esteemed friend, Sarah Stallsworth.
    She was preceded in death by her devoted parents, John D. and Marilyn Towery Bullen; her husband, John St. Clair; and her brother, Johnny Bullen.
    Remembered for her love of animals and her kind heart, donations in Katherine’s memory may be made to the Rockcastle Animal Shelter, 224 Cr-1705, Mt Vernon, KY 40456.
    Per Katherine’s wishes, services were private with a burial at Berea Cemetery.

    Wilma Jean Sparks Spencer of Rogers, Kentucky, widow of the late Pastor James Spencer, departed this life Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 19 days.
    She was the daughter of Elery Sparks and Edith Hatton Sparks, born in Estill County, Kentucky on September 19, 1941. She was a homemaker and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great, great, grandmother.
    Mrs. Spencer is survived by one son, Darrell Spencer (Carolyn) of Georgetown; four daughters, Pam Cummings (Mark) of Waynesville, Ohio; Carol Spencer (Tim) of Pine Ridge, Wavelene Spencer (Wendell Cole) and Janet Nickell (David) both of Campton, Kentucky; eleven grandchildren, Kimberly Peck, Chad Swatsler, Cory Swatsler, Joey Friend, Becky Watts, Danielle Cliburn, Lorrie Spencer, Scott Spencer, Jonathan Spencer, Gabe Nickell and Zack Nickell; 13 great grandchildren; two great, great, grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Sparks of Georgetown, and Randall Sparks (Mary) of Irvine; and two sisters, Wanda Rogers and Deborah Hensley (Chad) both of Irvine.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Pastor James Spencer; her parents, Elery Sparks and Edith Hatton Sparks; three brothers, Edward Sparks, Billy Sparks and Ronald Sparks; and four sisters, Alma Tipton, Wavelene McIntosh, Elaine McIntosh and Linda McIntosh. She also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
    Visitation was held at 12 Noon, Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Porter & Son Funeral Home, 769 East Main Street, Campton, followed by funeral services at 3 p.m. with Bro. Tim Lowe and Bro. David Nickell officiating. Burial was in the Evans Cemetery at Campton with Joey Friend, Jonathan Spencer, Scott Spencer, Zack Nickell, Gabe Nickell and Isaiah Spencer serving as pallbearers.
