Charles Grant McKinney Jr., age 70

    Charles Grant McKinney Jr., age 70, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024 after a very short illness.
    Charles "Chuck" was born in Greenville, South Carolina, on January 21, 1954 to Charles Grant McKinney and Norine Phelps McKinney. He was a professional custom-flooring designer and installer who took pride in his work. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, carpentry and spending quality time with his family; especially his grandchildren.
    Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Norine Phelps McKinney.
    He is survived by his children, Kara J. McKinney Marwil (Joseph) and Charles Grant "Chase" McKinney III; five grandchildren, Maycee, Sophia, Maddox, Norah and Elijah. one brother, James McKinney (Tima), two sisters, Jackie Rodman and Janice Griffin (Sidney); and a host of nieces and nephews.
    In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Care Plus, 350 Isaacs Ln. Richmond, KY 40475.
    Memorial Service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 21 Glory St. Irvine, KY on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 1 pm.

James E. Galloway

    James E. Galloway, age 77, of Irvine, Kentucky, Departed this life on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky after a sudden illness.
    Jim was born on July 16, 1946, in Richmond, Kentucky to the late Calvin E. Galloway and Bessie G. Cain.
    In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Margie Bowlin; and two brothers, Robert G. Galloway and Earl Plowman.
    Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Patricia Curry Galloway; two sons, Shane and wife Elizabeth Galloway of Irvine, and John and wife Karen Galloway of Berea; four grandchildren, Sibyl Colwell (Matt) of Mt. Vernon, Nick Galloway (Jenna) of Olive Hill, Breanna Golden Jordan (McKee), and James Galloway of Jackson County; four great grandchildren, Grayson and Hannah Galloway, Desman Golden, and Marlie Cowell; three sisters, Mary Miller of Richmond, Irene Lainhart of Brodhead, and Margaret Durbin of Irvine; a special cousin, Bernice Plymon of Irvine, and numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved puppy, Rowdy.
    Funeral services for James E. “Jim” Galloway were conducted on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Wisemantown Methodist Church with Bro. Tim Jones and Bro. Noel White officiating. Interment followed in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday evening, April 30th, 6-9 p.m. at Lewis Home for Funerals.
    Pallbearers were Shane Galloway, Gene Higginbotham, James Miller, Nick Galloway, Matt Colwell, and Jordan Golden. The funeral procession will be led by his grandson and KSP Trooper Nick Galloway.

Mary Jane Walton Overbay

    Mary Jane Walton Overbay, age 89, of Overbay Trailer Court in Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024, at her home following a beautiful life.
    She was born September 5, 1934, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Luther and Viola Robertson Walton. She was a Business Owner and a member of the Victory Tabernacle Church of God.
    Mrs. Overbay was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Overbay, and she is survived by four daughters: Delendia Overbay, Edith Blanton (James), Bessie Marie Overbay, and Martina Rothwell, all of Madison County; five sons, Raymond Overbay Jr. (Angelia), Estill County; Jerry Wayne (Overbay Barbara), Samuel Lee Overbay, Daniel Ray Overbay (Pam), and Manford Dean Overbay, all of Madison County; one brother, Earl Wayne Walton of Madison County; 17 grandchildren and several great and great, great grandchildren.
    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Luther Martin Overbay; one sister, Georgia Elizabeth Barker; and two brothers, James Wesley Walton and Charles Franklin Walton.
    Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 1, 2024, 11 a.m., at the Victory Tabernacle Church of God in Richmond with Bro. Geral Richardson officiating. Burial will be at the Walton Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 30th from 6-9 p.m. at the church.

Alma Raye Nolan

    Alma Raye Nolan, age 81, wife of Glen Nolan, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, at her home in Stanton, Kentucky.
    She was born in Mt. Canaan, Powell County, Kentucky, on June 14, 1942, to the late Clarence Stewart and the late Opal Lane Stewart. Alma was a career secretary, working for Faulkner Drilling; D.L. Pendleton, Attorney at Law; and J.O. Briggs Realty. She was a member of Stanton Presbyterian Church and loved life. Alma loved her husband and her family. She was a mother first and loved to cook. Alma enjoyed her family sitting around the table, partaking in the food she had lovingly prepared. She was known for her great sense of humor. Alma enjoyed flowers, gardening and sitting on her porch watching the hummingbirds come to the feeder.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Evalyn Adams.
    In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, John Shirley Nolan (Heather) and Willie Nolan (Holly), both of Stanton; one daughter, Glenna McIntosh (Danny); two brothers, Glenn Stewart (Sue) and Garney Stewart (Lorna), both of Dry Ridge; four sisters, Ceberta Thomas, Janice Stone, Edna Whaley (Darrell) and Kathy Burgess (Bobby), all of Dry Ridge; three special sisters, Virginia Wills, Shirley Ashley, and Judy Stephens; nine grandchildren, Danny Glen McIntosh, Emily Taube, Dustin Nolan, Hunter Nolan, John Tucker Nolan, Nolan McIntosh, Ty DeFilippo, Alison Craig, and Zach Monroe; and six great-grandchildren, Emma Taube, Wyatt Taube, Georgia Craig, Oliver Monroe, Aiden Neace, and Jacob Monroe.
    Visitation was held from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services officiated by Brother Terry Barnes were held at the funeral home at 12 Noon on Wednesday, May 1st.
    Burial was held at Nolan Cemetery in Stanton with Dustin Nolan, Hunter Nolan, John Tucker Nolan, Danny Glen McIntosh, Nolan McIntosh, and Cory Nolan serving as active pallbearers.
    Honorary pallbearers were Reece Foster, Billy Glen and Judy Puckett, Mike Nolan, Julie Kennon, John “Rub” Skidmore, and Juanita Randall.

    Pamela Beth King, 73, wife of William Darrell King, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky.
    She was born October 17, 1950 in Peru, Indiana, to the late Elmer Ulsperger and the late Marilyn Manning Helton.
    A homemaker, Pamela is survived by her husband of nearly fifty years, William "Bill" and& Glenda Covey; two brothers, David Helton (Debbie) and Johnny Helton; five and Vickie Lindeman (Dave); eight grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Ulsperger; her mother, Marilyn Helton; her step-father Raymond Helton; three brothers, Cecil Bud Helton, Raymond Eugene Helton, and Bruce Helton; and two sisters, Alene Jackson and Joyce Waveleyne Eby.
    Visitation was held Friday, April 26, 2024, beginning at 5 p.m. for family and 6 p.m. for friends. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 27 2024, by Bro. Eddie Dawson and Bro. Anthony Bond. Burial followed the service at the Tin Town Cemetery on South Fork Road in Stanton.

Howard Donny Dixon

    Howard Donny Dixon passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at his residence following a short illness.
    He was born October 27, 1945, in Irvine, Kentucky. He was a retired employee of the Kentucky Department of Highways. Donny loved being outdoors in nature and was an avid walker. At one time in his life, you could see him walking on River Drive every day for miles and miles. Sometimes with his dog by his side.
    Donny was preceded by his parents, Clyde and Emma Baily Dixon of Irvine. Also preceding him were his two sisters, Sue Dixon Gross and Billie Jean Dixon Cawood; one brother, Larry Dixon; and his niece, Stephanna Cawood.
    He is survived by a nephew, J.C. Cawood of Harlan, Kentucky; a special friend, Joy Abney; a great niece and nephew, several cousins and other special friends.
    Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 28, 2024, 2 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Hall officiating. Burial was at the Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation was held on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m.

    Gary Paul Gross, age 70, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at his residence.
    He was born in Irvine on November 4, 1953 to Otto and Zeta Gross. He was a retired Heavy Equipment Operator.
    Mr. Gross is survived by an honorary daughter, Rhonda Eckler; four stepsons, Tommy Boyken, Chris Boyken, Keith Boyken,and Jody Boyken; a stepdaughter, Missy Boyken; and three sisters, Phyllis Durbin, Janet Smith and Sue Newton.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Zeta Gross; his stepfather, Robert Lamb; his stepmother, Isabell Gross; a brother, Ronnie Gross; and a sister, Donna Hurley.
    A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the Grayson Funeral Home in Irvine with Bro. Chad Brothers officiating. Friends may visit Wednesday from 4 p.m. till time of the service.

    Ray Holland Rose, age 83, of Winchester, Kentucky, formerly of Irvine, departed this life on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
    Ray was born on November 6, 1940, in McKee, Kentucky to the late Chester and Tressie Lamb Rose. He was of the Holiness faith and a United States Navy veteran.
    In addition to his parents, Mr. Rose was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Sparks Rose.
    Survivors include four children, Rayna Thomas (Glen), Seleta Bean (Michael), Curtis Rose (Gina), and Holly Calvert (Mark); two brothers, Joe Rose (Virginia) and Steve Rose; two sisters, Barbara Cole and Marilyn Goosey (Paul); nine grandchildren, Stephanie Ross, Jessica Easter (Matthew), Amanda Thomas, Riley Bean, Savannah Hollender (Joshua), Lauren Ramsey (Matt), Vance Rose (Lauren), Emily Calvert, and Hannah Calvert and fiancé Jake Parker; and five great grandchildren, Trenton Ross, Maddie Ross, Eliza Ramsey, Mollie Ramsey, and Kent Ramsey; along with many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends to miss him and mourn his passing.
    A memorial service for Ray Holland Rose was conducted on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Macedonia Holiness Church in McKee, with Rev. Sherl Thomas officiating. The family received friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at the church. Military honors were be provided by Chapter 165 of the D.A.V. of McKee, Kentucky.

    Teresa Walling, age 69, of White Oak Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, April 22, 2024, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a short illness.
    She was born September 23, 1954, in Madison County and was the daughter of the late Walter Baker and Sarilda Mae Williams Ross. She was a retired employee of the Winchester Nursing Home and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Teresa is survived by one daughter, Missy Walling (Charlena Hardy) of Estill County; one son, Ben Walling (Amanda Weekley) of Estill County; 12 grandchildren, Blair Walling, Austin Wells (Sierra), Stephen Wells, Jessalynn Wells, Jayce Chapman, Nolan Walling, Ansley Chapman, Grayson Chapman, Lincoln Walling, Layton Walling, Jax Hardy, and Hayes Walling; one great grandchild, Ezren Wells; and a special Friend, Marlene Baker.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Junior Walling; and her sister, Vina Kaye Walling.

    Charlene Arrowood, age 88, wife of Bermin Arrowood, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at her home in Winchester, Kentucky.
    Born in Perry County, Kentucky, on April 19, 1936, she was the daughter of the late David and Harriet Godsey Miller.
    In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her son, Michael Arrowood (Carolyn); a grandson, Grafton Arrowood (Tina); two great grandchildren, Grafton Dale Arrowood, Jr. and Kyla Arrowood; three sisters, Jan Ross, Ruby Shivener, and Sharon Miller; one brother, Dan Miller; and a host of extended family members and friends.
    Services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2024, at Scobee Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial followed in Clarmont Memorial Gardens. Family received friends from 10 a.m. until time of service on Friday.

    Nancy Fox, widow of Ray Donald Fox and the daughter of the late Frank and Helen Kincaid Schaefer, was born in Dayton, Ohio on July 19, 1942 and peacefully departed this life at her home in Beattyville, Kentucky on April 24, 2024 at the age of 81 years, 9 months, and 7 days.
    Mrs. Fox is survived by five children, Debbie Steinhauer (Brad) of Crittenden, Barbara Brandenburg (Danny) of Beattyville, Susan Pettit (James) of Richmond, Michael Fox, and Ricky Fox (Jolene), both of Beattyville; three grandchildren, Shane Steinhauer, Candice Kelley, and Autumn Fox; five great grandchildren, Brooklyn Steinhauer, Caleb and Emma Pettit, Sadie Kelley, and Luke Steinhauer; one brother, Michael Schaefer of Clay City; and a host of other relatives and friends.
    In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Fox was preceded in death by her aunt and uncle, Lenville and Nell Price; a grandson, Craig Pettit; and her four siblings, Trudy Boggs, Jerry Schaefer, Sandra Smith, and Ricky Schaefer.
    Visitation was held Sunday, April 28, 2024, 12 Noon to 2 p.m. at the Newnam Funeral Home Chapel, 108 Center Street in Beattyville, followed by the service at 2 p.m. Interment was at the Ray D. Fox Memorial Cemetery, Blaine's Branch in Beattyville.

William Knox

    William Knox, age 61, of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at his residence.
    He was born September 15, 1962 in Bayonne, New Jersey, to William "Bill" and and Bernadette Knox. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
    Mr. Knox is survived by two daughters, Shana Knox and Kristin Nemecek; two stepsons, Joseph Bexley and Jonathan Bexley; eleven grandchildren, one great grandchild; a brother, Donald Knox; and two sisters, Donna Miller and Judy Jones.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Glenda Knox.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2024 at the Grayson Funeral Home in Clay City. Friends visited Friday from 11 a.m. till time of the service. Burial was in the Donnie G. Randall Veterans Cemetery in Stanton.

    Linda Lou Powell, age 74, of Noland’s Creek Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the Irvine Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
    She was born August 5, 1949, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Rebecca Johns Abner. She was a homemaker and farm worker and had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Powell, and is survived by three sons, Charles Powell, Jr. (Tammy), Timothy Lawrence Powell, and Matthew Dwayne Powell, all of Estill County; two sisters, Diane McGuire and Darlene Abner, both of Estill County; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren; her companion, Elisah John “Bobo” Freeman; and several nieces and nephews.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Osborne; and two brothers, Thomas Abner and Larry “Sonny” Abner.
    Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 26, 2024, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Marvin Neal officiating. Burial was at the Woods Cemetery. Visitation was held on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Carson Euell Sumner

    Carson Euell Sumner, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
    He was born in Rosslyn, Kentucky, on October 5, 1938, to the late Bryan Sumner and the late Helen Wilson Sumner. Euell was a lifelong farmer who raised corn, tobacco, and livestock. He loved to hunt and fish. Euell loved Chevrolet cars. He had a high level of integrity and was a lifelong learner. Euell served in the United States Army and was proud to have served his country.
    Mr. Sumner is survived by his wife, Margie Sumner of Stanton; one daughter, Angela Chapman (Glenn) of Stanton; one grandchild, Taylor Chapman Blevins (Zachary); and three great grandchildren, Harper Kate Blevins, Adalynn Marie Blevins, and Porter Reece Blevins.
    Visitation was held from 1-3 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services officiated by Bro. Wesley Miller were held at the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 3 p.m.
    Burial was at Stanton Cemetery with Glenn Chapman, Zachary Blevins, Mike Reed, Gary Napier, Dwayne Hatton and Randall Young serving as active pallbearers.

    Elizabeth Ann Hurley Ayers, age 39, of Louisville, Kentucky, formerly of Irvine, departed this life on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the University of Louisville's Mary and Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
    Elizabeth was born on May 27, 1983, in Winchester, Kentucky to the late Archie Hurley and Patsy Mullins Hurley.
    In addition to her father, Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband, Chester Ayers.
    Survivors include her fiancé, Jerome Wright; her mother, Patsy Mullins Hurley; three sisters, Patricia, Mary Sue, and Rhonda Hurley; two nieces, Kylie and Maelee Headstrom; and one nephew, Hunter King; as well as numerous other relatives and friends to miss her and mourn her passing.
    Funeral services for Elizabeth Ann Hurley Ayers were conducted on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals with Brother Marvin Neal officiating. Interment followed in the Marcum Cemetery. The family received friends from 12 Noon until the time of services at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Reverend Bruce Edward Kirby

    Reverend Bruce Edward Kirby, born November 30, 1951 to the late Myrtle Smith Abrams and Flemon Kirby, departed this life on Saturday, April 20, 2024 being 72 years of age.
    He was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Kirby; and his sister, Nina.
    Brother Kirby was a piano player for many groups and later played for the church. He pastored Clover Bottom Baptist Church for two years. He was called to Kerby Knob Baptist Church and remained there for 22 years. He was ordained at Kerby Knob Baptist Church and remains a member, he loved the church and all the people of Kirby Knob Baptist Church. Bruce was a Vietnam veteran serving two years in the Army.
    He is survived by his wife Wanda Faye "Lunsford" Kirby; one son, Jason Kirby (Amanda); and two grandchildren that he loved dearly, Ryan Kirby (Breanna) and their baby, Nevah; and Natalie Angie Sturgill Boone (Clifton) and their children, Ruthie and Myrah. He also had a special niece and family.
    Pallbearers were Chad Sturgill, Gene Lunsford, David Lunsford, Larry Lunsford, Hank Patton, Jason Kirby, Clifton Boone and Ryan Kirby.
    Honorary Pallbearers included all the men at Kerby Knob Baptist Church.

    Alice Arvin, age 81, of London, Kentucky passed away Friday, April 19, 2024 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
    She was the mother of Debra Fathergill of Corinth, Kentucky and Charlotte Jeffrey of London, Kentucky. She was blessed with five grandchildren, Rachel Grubb (Aaron), Rebekah Jeffrey (Adam Hoover), James Jeffrey (Erin Rucker), Lindsey Candelaria (Damon) and Amanda Goins (Caleb), and seven great grandchildren, Gage Hillman, Brantlee Jones, Christopher Candelaria, Bobby Goins, Jonah Grubb, Anastasia Grubb and Emma Goins.
    Mrs. Arvin was preceded in death by her first husband, Bobby Begley; and her second husband Bill Arvin; by her parents, Ira and Angie Martin Smith; and her siblings, Stanley Smith, Floyd Smith, Marie Jackson and Ruby Harris.
    She was of the Baptist faith and worked for the Kentucky Highway Department.
    Funeral services for Alice Arvin were conducted Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 1 p.m. in London Funeral Chapel. Burial followed at Norvell Cemetery. The family of Alice Arvin received friends at London Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.
    Serving as pallbearers were Damon Candelaria, Caleb Goins, Adam Hoover, Aaron Grubb, Anthony Wagers and Hunter Nantz.
    Serving as honorary pallbearers were Gayle Jeffrey, Mike Fathergill, James Jeffrey, Gage Hillman, Christopher Candelaria, Bobby Goins, Jonah Grubb and Brantlee Jones.

Joyce Fae Strong

    Joyce Fae Strong, 94, of North Chesterfield, Virginia; went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 7, 2024.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Strong; parents, James and Louise Hawthorne; and a brother, James Hawthorne, Jr.
    Joyce is survived by her nieces, Kimberly Trentham (Alan) and Ann Coleman; nephews, Bill (Lisa), Joe, and James Strong; a sister-in-law, Nellie Hawthorne; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
    A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Kingsland Baptist Church, 8801 Perrymont Rd., N. Chesterfield, 23237.
    Morrisett Funeral Home of Richmond, Virginia, was in charge of arrangements.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kingsland Baptist Church, PO Box 3209, Chester, VA 23831.
    The family donated the remainder of her newspaper subscription toward newspapers for patients at Marcum & Wallace and residents of Irvine Health & Rehabilitation Center.
