Pauline Gross

    Pauline Gross, age 58, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Friday, December 13, 2024 at her residence.
    She was born July 9, 1965 in Irvine to William and Eliza Isaacs.
    Pauline is survived by four sons, Larry, Preston, Justin, and Michael Gross; three daughters, Ashley McPherson, Allie James, and Michelle Matherly; 19 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; four brothers, Stanley, Glendon, Harold, and Jimmy Isaacs; two sisters, Lois Isaacs and Teresa Isaacs; and a very special Soulmate, Arthur Haddix.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Eliza Isaacs; and her husband, Larry Dale Gross.
    A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the Alexander Cemetery in Irvine.

Jesse H. "Itzie" Bailey

    Jesse H. "Itzie" Bailey, age 88, of Ravenna, Kentucky, departed this life on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the St. Joseph Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
    Born on November 30, 1936, in Irvine, Jesse was the son of the late Jesse E. and Della Mae Walters Bailey.
    Mr. Bailey was a lifelong member of Mount Carmel Christian Church and also served in the United States Army. He was a retired brakeman with CSX Railroad.
    In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ida Fay Horn Bailey, two sisters, Vivian Griggs and Lodena Muncy; and a brother-in-law, Ray South.
    Survivors include his three children, Jesse Allen Bailey (Allison), Eddie Lee Bailey, and Sheila Renee Bailey; three grandchildren, Jessica Horn (Sean), Kerrie Collins, and Gracie Bailey; three great grandchildren, Olivia Shearer, Amelia Horn, and Aiden Ramey; two sisters, Mary South and Betty Witt (Larry "Mouse"); and two brothers-in-law, Charles P. Muncy and Johnny Griggs; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and relatives and friends to miss him and mourn his passing.
    Funeral services for Jesse H. "Itzie" Bailey will be conducted on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals. Pastor Mark Pearson and Rev. Ronald Lutes will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Moberly Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 17th from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Military honors at the graveside will be conducted by American Legion Post 79.
    Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

    Wilma Jean McIntosh, age 75, of Fairground Ridge Road in Beattyville, Kentucky, passed away Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Lee County Care and Rehab Center, following a short illness.
    She was born January 28, 1949, in Lee County and was the daughter of the late Dewey C. Samples and Kathleen Lemaster Samples. She was a Homemaker and attended the Hopewell First Church of God. She had lived in Lee County for all of her life.
    Mrs. McIntosh was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell McIntosh; and she is survived by one daughter, Lisa Pelfrey (Sam Hatton) of Beattyville; one son, Gregory McIntosh (Debbie) of Beattyville; one sister, Mary Stamper (Willard) of Ravenna; three brothers, Paul Edwin Samples (Kathy) of Lee County, Bobby Lynn Samples (Mattie) of Richmond, and Benny Samples (Ruth) of Irvine; five grandchildren, Kelsey McIntosh, Kourtney McIntosh-Spencer (Ryan), Makisha Botner, Michaela Botner, and Marshall McIntosh; five great grandchildren, Paisley Cockerham, Hayden Beer, Eli Beer, Carinah Spencer, and Damien Spencer; a sister-in-law, Kathy Samples; a special miece, Michelle Turpin; and special friends, Brenda Evans, and Wavelene and Charlie Brewer.
    In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Geneieve Rison; two brothers, Dewey Samples Jr. and Charles Leon Samples; and two nephews, Shawn and Justin Samples.
    Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 16, 2024, 1 p.m.at the Hopewell First Church of God in Beattyville with Bro. Vernon Raines and his wife Shannon Raines officiating. Ann Richardson

    Ann Richardson, a beacon of kindness and warmth, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, at the age of 83, in Berea, Kentucky.
    Born on May 28, 1941, in Lee County, Kentucky, Ann was the cherished daughter of the late Carlos and Goldie Kendrick Brandenburg. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
    Ann's life was a testament to the power of love and family. She was the devoted wife of Hume Richardson, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and unwavering partnership. Together, they raised a family that included their son, Michael Richardson (Joyce), and daughter, Debbie Moberly (Terry). Ann's legacy of love continues through her grandchildren, Tyler Moberly (Andrea), Brandon Moberly, Mikey Ryan Richardson (Natosha), and her great-grandchildren, Adalynn Richardson, Annie Jane Moberly, and Myah Richardson. Though she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Ashley Richardson, her spirit lives on in the cherished memories they created.
    Ann was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Brandenburg, Bill Brandenburg, Don Brandenburg, and her sisters, Madeline Brandenburg, Sue Brandenburg, Mae Wooten, Sylvia Ponder, Wilma Smith, and Grace Brandenburg.
    She is survived by her brother, Tim Brandenburg of Irvine; and many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her nurturing presence. Ann’s life was also enriched by the companionship of a special family friend, Jeff Chesebro, whose friendship she treasured.
    Ann's interests were as nurturing as her personality. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as fishing, delighting her family and friends with her cooking, which was both a passion and a way to bring her loved ones together. Her gardens were a labor of love, yielding bountiful harvests that she skillfully preserved through canning.
    Those who knew Ann would describe her as the epitome of kindness. She approached life with a gentle heart and a generous spirit, always ready to lend a hand or offer a word of encouragement. Her kindness was not just an attribute but a way of life that touched everyone she encountered.
    Funeral services will be held at Lakes Funeral Home in Berea on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 1 p.m. with burial to follow at Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 11am until time of service.
    Pallbearers will be Tyler Moberly, Brandon Moberly, Mikey Ryan Richardson, Derek Messina, Jeff Chesebro, and Donnie Brandenburg.

Joseph Glen Profitt

    Joseph Glen Profitt, age 33, entered his heavenly home on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
    He is the son of Lanny Glenn Profitt and the late Judy Lane Tipton Profitt. He was previously employed by Fauste Oil where he loved his job, but his health kept him from continuing to work.
    In addition to his mother, Joseph was preceded in death by his sister, Connie Gail Profitt; and grandparents, James “Rabbit” and Mary Tipton and Elmer and Elsie Profitt.
    In addition to his father, he is survived by one sister, Lana Profitt; two nieces, Alyvia and Morgan; and two nephews, Landon and Lance; his fiancée, Jessica Miller; and her parents Darrell and Patty Miller and grandparents Bonnie and Monroe Miller; along with a host of family and friends.
    Joe, as most everyone knew him brought such joy when he was born as the last Profitt boy and always loved hunting, trading, and shooting the breeze. He will be missed by so many because he was loved by so many.
    Per his wishes, a graveside service will be held at the Old Home Place Cemetery on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 3 p.m. at the cemetery. Joseph will be laid to rest next to his mom, sister, and grandparents.
    Pallbearers are Landon Curtis, Stephen Tipton, Robert Tipton, Charlie Fauste, William Horn, Andy Alcorn, and Brandon Estes.

    Lillian Ann McCoy, age 78, of Watson Ridge in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Friday, December 6, 2024, at Furnace Junction, following a long illness.
    She was born May 20, 1946, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Leslie Ray Hall and Edith Lee Hall. She retired from CMS and was a Homemaker. She attended the Roadside Misson Church of God.
    Mrs. McCoy was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Eugene McCoy, and she is survived by three daughters: Kimberly Kay Rogers (Daniel), Angela Gaye Johnson (Daniel), both of Ravenna; and Donna Jean Jones (James) of Sharpsburg, Kentucky; one son, Phillip Keith McCoy (Missy) of Richmond; four sisters, Faye Freeman, Brenda Bake, Linda Blythe, all of Alexandria; and Nancy Bailey of Georgetown; one brother, Jim Hall of Estill County; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
    In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Dodie Marie Cole; one son, Leslie Ray McCoy; four sisters, Jean Todd, Peggy Bailey, Gloria Gabbard, and Darlene Hall; and one brother, Roger Hall.

    Darlene Babb Newell, 79, the widow of Ronnie “Utay” Newell, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Baptist Health – Richmond.
    Darlene was born in Madison County on January 14, 1945, the daughter of the late John William & Cleona Estes Babb. She, along with her husband, owned and operated Newell Sanitation for over 50 years. Darlene was a member of the former Westside Christian Church.
    Survivors include her son, Ronald Wayne Newell (Misty); her daughters, Debra Conner and Donna Kelley (Doug); one sister, Jewell Dean Parke; nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild; as well as a host of other extended family and friends.
    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Jane Purcell.
    Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 W. Main Street, Richmond, with Bro. John McCord officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Thursday.

    Lucille “Hissy” Puckett Smith, age 89, a resident of the Irvine, Kentucky, Nursing and Rehab Center, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the Center, following a long illness.
    She was born March 16, 1935, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Deward and Lula Wiseman Puckett. She retired from Square D, and she had lived in Estill County for most of her life.
    Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Charles Smith; one sister, Roseann Adams of Estill County; two brothers, Kenneth Puckett (Pam) and Robert Puckett, both of Estill County; a sister-in-law, Nancy Puckett of Clark County; and several nieces and nephews.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Bernice Puckett; and one brother, Deward “D.C.” Puckett.
    Funeral services weee conducted Friday, December 6, 2024, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Hargus Gordon officiating. Burial was at the Puckett Cemetery. Visitation was held on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Kenneth “Tommy” Lawson

    Kenneth “Tommy” Lawson, age 72, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky.
    He was born in Stanton, Kentucky, on January 12, 1952, to the late Russell Clay Lawson and the late Irene Manning Lawson. Tommy graduated from Powell County High School in 1971, marking the beginning of his commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. He went on to further his education at Central Kentucky Vocational School in Lexington, where he immersed himself in the industrial drafting program, completing it in 1979. This was followed by his pursuit of knowledge in the industrial electricity program, which he finished in 1983, showcasing his dedication to mastering various technical skills.
    A proud United States Air Force veteran, Tommy served as a fuel specialist from 1971 to 1975, gaining invaluable experience and discipline that shaped his future endeavors.
    After his military service, he joined the workforce with enthusiasm and skill, taking on vital roles in different sectors. Tommy worked at the Avon Bluegrass Army Depot, overseeing inventory control with meticulous attention to detail. His career then led him to the Department of Transportation, where he excelled as a transportation research center technician. Tommy also contributed his drafting expertise to the Office of Engineering Services and played a pivotal role in various areas in his job with Engineering Computing Services.
    Faith was an essential part of Tommy’s life; he was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church, where he actively lived out his beliefs through service and kindness in the community. In his free time, Tommy relished the great outdoors, often found tending to his lawn and mowing with a sense of pride. His love for animals reflected his compassionate nature, as he took joy in their company. Tommy had a passion for travel, seeking new adventures and experiences that broadened his horizons. He was known for his infectious smile and outgoing personality. Tommy’s warm presence and engaging spirit made him a beloved figure among friends and family, always bringing joy and laughter wherever he went.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Ray Lawson and Bobby Clay Lawson.
    Tommy is survived by one brother, Troy Lawson of Stanton; one sister, Brenda Sue Lawson of Stanton; three nephews, Steven Lawson (Melody) of Stanton, Randy Lawson and Timothy Lawson, both of Lafayette, Indiana; two nieces, Roxanne Lawson of Georgia, and Connie Newsome (Jeff) of Stanton; numerous cousins; and a very special dog, Roscoe.
    Visitation will be held from 12 Noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services officiated by Brother John Doss will be held at the funeral home on Monday directly after the visitation at 1 p.m. Burial will take place in Stanton Cemetery.

    Tracy L. Sebastian, age 67, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at his home in Booneville, Kentucky.
    Tracy was born November 11, 1957 in Richmond, Kentucky, a son to Betty Sebastian and the late Howard Sebastian. He was an employee of the Owsley County Road Department, and in his free-time he enjoyed being outdoors, tinkering around on projects, and was known as a jack of all trades.
    Along with is mother, Betty Sebastian of Booneville; he is survived by his daughter, Bridget Hampton (Brandeon) of Clay City; one sister; Tela Barrett (Jim) of Booneville; one aunt, Brenda Holland (Ordie) of Texas; one niece; Lynne Sebastian (Patrick) of New Mexico; and many other loving family members, and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Sebastian; and an aunt, Bobbie Thorpe.
    Visitation will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 1-2 p.m., at the Booneville Funeral Home followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. with Pastor Rob Morgan officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his father in the Combs-McIntosh Cemetery in Booneville.

    Cathy Stough Pelfrey, age 67, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Louisville, Kentucky.
    She was born in Peru, Indiana, to the late Ray Stough and the late Vera Smith Poor.
    A proud graduate of Powell County High School, Cathy also found a sense of community at the Stanton Assembly of God, where her faith flourished. Her heart was devoted to her three children and her cherished grandchildren, who brought her immense pride and joy. Known for her warm and welcoming nature, Cathy had a unique ability to connect with everyone she met, never treating a stranger as anything less than a friend. She had a deep love for the outdoors, often found beneath the sun, relishing the invigorating experience of riding her four-wheeler or operating various pieces of farm equipment. The thrill of being outside brought her true happiness. Traveling was another passion of hers; she embraced adventure and relished the company of others, always seeking to share experiences and memories.
    Cathy’s vivacious spirit made her one of the most caring and generous individuals, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. As the beloved matriarch of her family, she was the glue that held them all together, radiating love and support. Her warmth and compassion touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting legacy of fond memories and affection.
    In addition to her parents, Cathy is preceded in death by one brother, Wallace Stough; and one sister, Louise Trent.
    She is survived by her former husband, Jerry Pelfrey of Stanton; one son, Joshua Pelfrey (Brittany) of Stanton; two daughters, Tiffany Embry (Adam) of Louisville and Melissa Pelfrey of Stanton; three brothers, Kenneth Stough (Barb) of Seymour, Indiana; David Stough (Judy) of Stuart, Virginia; and Charles Poor (Delilah) of Clay City; three sisters, Betty Cress of Conroe, Texas; Debbie Stough of Stanton, and Barbara Slemp of Stanton; six grandchildren, Jordyn Embry, Waylon Embry, Calista Creecy, Kaylee Mathews, Malia Mathews, and Logan Pelfrey; and her best friend, Mona Hall.

    Thomas Lynn “Tommy” Knox, age 62, of Stanton, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024. He was born in Stanton on July 16, 1962, to the late Tom Knox and the late Retha Spencer.
    Tommy felt an immense sense of pride reflecting on the four transformative years he dedicated to serving his country in the United States Navy, embracing the challenges and camaraderie of military life.
    Known for his infectious sense of humor, he had a special talent for brightening the days of those around him, always armed with a funny story that could bring a smile to anyone’s face. Tommy had a passion for automobiles, eagerly attending car shows as often as possible and finding joy in tinkering and working on cars. His generous spirit shone through in his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Tommy’s blend of humor, skill, and kindness made him a cherished presence in the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Diane Gilbert Tackett; and one nephew, Chris Townsend.
    Tommy is survived by one son, Joshua Thomas Knox (Metia) of Irvine; one daughter, Kristen LeeAnna Knox of Clay City; two sisters, Deloris Gilbert Townsend (Roy) of Stanton and Charlinda Knox Davis of Lexington; one step-grandchild, Caleb Conrad; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    He was born in Winchester, Kentucky, October 1, 1956, to Joe and Sopha Hisle. He was a retired construction worker.
    Mr. Hisle is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Sue Hisle; two sons, Ronald Hisle Jr. and Timothy Hisle; a daughter, Amber Hisle; a grandson, Damian Taylor Strange; a brother, Sam Hisle; and two sisters, Brenda Smith and Sudie Hall.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Sopha Hisle; a son, Clifton Hisle; five brothers, Charlie, Marcus, Joe, Ivan and Keith Hisle; and two sisters, Ruby and Rhoda.
    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, December 6, 2024, at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel in Clay City. Friends may visit Friday from 11 a.m. till time of the service. Burial will be in the Smith Family Cemetery in Estill County.

Darlene Kay Thorpe

    Darlene Kay Thorpe, age 72, passed into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stanton, Kentucky.
    She was born in Lima, Ohio to the late French Hough Thorpe and the late Gladys Sparks Thorpe. Darlene earned her bachelor’s degree in music from Houston Bible College. During her time there, she had the wonderful opportunity to travel throughout the United States as a member of the college choir, sharing her love for God through uplifting songs and harmonies. Singing in her church was a cherished part of her life, and she dedicated herself to deepening her understanding of the Scriptures by studying Biblical theology.
    In her downtime, Darlene immersed herself in the captivating world of mystery novels, often losing herself in the twists and turns of the plots. Her love for Bluegrass music echoed her Southern roots, filling her days with lively melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Known for her quick wit and infectious laughter, Darlene brought joy to those around her. Generosity was a defining trait of her character; she constantly sought opportunities to lend a helping hand and make a positive impact on the lives of others. Above all, Darlene aspired to reflect the qualities of her mother, striving to be a living testament to the values she held dear.
    In addition to her parents, Darlene is preceded in death by her two brothers, Floyd “Fuzzy” Thorpe and Daniel Gale Thorpe.
    She is survived by two nieces, Angela Thorpe of Mount Blanchard, Ohio, and Cindy Thorpe Hart of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; and six nephews, Justin Thorpe (Whitney) of Jeffersonville, Jason Thorpe (Conni) of Ferdinand, Indiana, Bradley Thorpe of Stanton, Brandon Thorpe (Sarah) of Frenchburg, Kevin Thorpe of Mt. Sterling, and Allen Thorpe of Covington.
    A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., at Harvestime Assembly Ministries, 460 E. College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky 40380.
