Angel Marie Gordon

    Angel Marie Gordon, age 33, the mother of Kyreece Thompson and the daughter to Teresa and the late Ray Douglas Gordon, passed away from an extended illness on Friday, December 27, 2024 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington Kentucky.
    In addition to Angels son and mother, she is survived by her siblings, Felicia White (JP), Latanya West, Amanda Gordon, Chasidy Gordon, Kevina Gordon, Latee Cox (Andrew), Christopher Gordon, Larry Gordon, Aria Gordon, Tilda Gordon, Deffena Mosley (Jeffery), Cory Morton, Jurika Wade, and Kevin Reed.
    Also left to honor Angels memories is her grandmother, Emma Mitchell; and a host of nieces and nephews.
    Besides her father, Angel is preceded in death by a sister, Kimberly Gordon.
    Visitation will be at 11 a.m. and the funeral service at 1 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Richmond Predestinarian Baptist Church, 209 East Irvine Street in Richmond, with Elder Raymond Walker Jr., Pastor, officiating.

    Lois Marie Newkirk Williams, age 94, widow of Roger Lee Williams, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024 at The Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation in Berea, Kentucky.
    She was born to the late Robert Broaddus Newkirk and Julia Howell Newkirk on December 5, 1930 at Millers Creek in Estill County, Kentucky. She was a homemaker and also worked in Childcare. Mrs. Williams was a member of Fountain Park First Church of God.
    Mrs. Williams is survived by one son, Barry Williams (Paula); three daughters, Janet York (Larry), Joye Lowery and Jill Slone (Brian); two brothers, Paul Newkirk and Bobby Newkirk; one sister, Barbara Sue Goe; and 18 great grandchildren.
    Services will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Fountain Park First Church of God in Richmond, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
    Pallbearers will be Jeff Harmon, Patrick Williams, Anthony Williams, Matt Lowery, Trent Harmon and Zach Slone. Honorary pallbearers will be Michelle Allen and Robyn Frederick.

Rickie Jan Parker Means

    Rickie Jan Parker Means, age 68, of Richmond, Kentucky, the widow of Wendell Means, passed away early on Christmas morning, Wednesday, December 25, 2024, surrounded by her family.
    She was born in Richmond, on Friday, May 4, 1956. Rickie was monitor tech for Baptist Health - Richmond and retired after 35+ years. She was an avid reader and loved to crochet. Rickie was also a professional bingo player, collector of Hens on the Nest, clocks and looked forwarding to watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy each time it came on. Most of all she loved her family and spending time with those she loved.
    Survivors include her children, Wendy Lynch (Sidney) and Adam Means (Tischa); one sister, Anola Davis; seven grandchildren, Sidney Lynch, Jr. (Odessa), Whitney Means, Kristie Lynch (Kacie), Avondia Means, Adam Kristopher Means, Cloe Means, and Aubrey Francis; seven great-grandchildren, including Ashtyn Lynch and Beren O'Daniel; as well as a host of other extended family and friends.
    In addition to her husband, Wendell Means, she was preceded in death by her father, Seymour Cawood Parker; her mother, Nancy Day Parker Means; and one sister, Avondia Parker.
    Funeral Services were conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, with Bro. Larry Day officiating. Burial followed in the Flatwoods Cemetery. Visitation was 5-8 p.m., Friday, December 27th at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Sidney Lynch, Sidney Lynch Jr., Kristie Lynch, Kory Moore, Rodney Richardson, and Larry Francis.

    Jane Elliott Witt Bryant, age 71, of Geneva Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.
    She was born on May 12, 1953, in Richmond, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Glenn and Mary Louise Witt.
    Jane was a 1971 graduate of Irvine High, and later in life she followed her passion becoming a preschool teacher for Estill County Schools. Jane is a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Irvine. Jane's faith was a guiding force in her life.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Elizabeth "Mim" Elliott.
    She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Tommy "Tobo" Bryant; a daughter, Elizabeth Bryant (Shannon); and her sister-in-law, Peggy T. Bryant; as well as many dear friends who were family to her.
    Funeral services for Jane were held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Irvine with Elder Steve Garrett and Ed Huckleberry officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Irvine. The family received friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 2:30 p.m.
    Pallbearers were Richard and Greg Snowden, Myron Smyth, Kelby Robinson, Tim and Will Burkhart, and Darrell Richardson.
    Honorary pallbearers were Donald Richardson, Mark Honchell, and The Shufflers.

    Mary D. Smith, age 94, widow of Farris D. Smith, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 21, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Robert A. "Bob" Fox and Sally Isaacs Fox.
    Other than her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by two sisters, Dora Johnson and Sara Jane Rose; three brothers, Albert Fox, Olson Fox and Tommy Fox; along with seven children, Cecil, Cleburn, Bruce, Glen, Bernice, Porcha & Dianna; four grandchildren, and one great grandson.
    Survivors include one son, Anthony Smith (Karen) and three daughters, Mildred Richardson (Bill), Bonnie Wilson and Jewell Isaacs (Lowell). Mary was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren.
    Mary was a member of the Drip Rock Baptist Church. Visitation was held at 6 p.m., Thursday, December 26 at the church.
    Funeral services were held 1 p.m., Friday, December 27, 2024, at the Drip Rock Baptist Church with Bro. Roger Williams and Bro. Mike Davis officiating. Burial followed in the Sparkman Cemetery.
    Pallbearers were Jason Richardson, Owen Isaacs, Anthony Smith, Aaron Wilson, Josh Wilson, Donnie Smith and Daniel Smith.

    Joetta Tyree Palmer, age 86, of 8th Street in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Friday, December 20, 2024, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a short illness.
    She was born May 9, 1938, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Ernest Green Tyree and Gladys Mae Garrett Tyree. She retired from the Irvine Post Office, where she worked as a Clerk. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church and the Historical Society. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. Tyree was preceded in death by her husband, James Raymond Palmer; and she is survived by one sister, Jackie T. Wiseman of Estill County; two brothers, Michael Tyree (Pearl) and Glynn Tyree (Marilyn), both of Estill County; three nieces, Kendra Powell (John), Mary Tyree, and Darlene Linder; three nephews, Herb Wiseman, Michael L. Tyree, and Josh McIntosh; five great nieces and nephews and one great, great niece.
    In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Tyree and Pepper Tyree (Dinah).
    Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 23, 2024, 2 p.m., at the Friendship Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Rogers officiating. Burial will be at the Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Church.

    Minnie Knox, age 80, of Stanton, Kentucky, widow of Rexford Knox, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Clark Regional Medical Center, Winchester.
    She was born December 11, 1944 in Dakota, West Virginia to the late Claude and Mary Green Lane Spencer. Minnie was a faithful member of the Wildwood Chapel Church.
    Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Derickson (Jamie) and Ruth Ann Rogers Hon; step-sons, Rex Knox Jr., Barry Lee Knox, Ronald Knox, and Jeffery Lee Knox; and step-daughter Felicia Ann Hawkins (Mickey).
    She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two step-sons, Rex Knox Jr and Barry Lee Knox; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
    Services will be held Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home, Stanton, by Bro. Rob Rice and Bro. Ramon Gibbs. Visitation will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., at the funeral home.

Dennis Edward Coomer

    Dennis Edward Coomer, age 66, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born in Ary, Kentucky on November 24, 1958, to the late Shelby Vernon Coomer and the late Ruth Lockard Coomer.
    Dennis worked in maintenance at Nestle, where his skills kept operations running smoothly. A valued member of the Clay City United Methodist Church, he fostered friendships within the community. Formerly part of the Defires Motorcycle Club, Dennis enjoyed the freedom of riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He was passionate about cattle farming, enjoying the hard work and dedication it required. Cooking was another of his loves; Dennis delighted in preparing meals for his family and creating memorable holiday gatherings filled with laughter and delicious food.
    His grandchildren brought him immense joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them. A sports enthusiast, Dennis was often found cheering for his favorite teams. Generous and friendly, his strong personality and sense of humor made him a beloved figure among friends and family.
    In addition to his parents, Dennis is preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Renee Coomer; his stepmother, Dorothy Roberts Coomer; and two sisters, Vondra Rose and Sharon K. Brewer.
    He is survived by three sons, Joseph Coomer of Clay City, Eric Coomer (Beth) of Mt. Sterling, and Dennis Coomer II (Jennifer) of Stanton; one brother, Paul Edward Brewer (Michelle) of Battle Creek, Michigan; four sisters, Anita Sharma (Baikuntha) of Lexington, Edith Elaine Cole (Garry) of Clay City, Lenora Spray (Jim) of Mt. Sterling, and Kathy Smith of Stanton; and six grandchildren, Izabella Renee Coomer, Jacie Wiegel, Jamison Wiegel, LillyAnn Howell, CherryAnn Martin, and Aiden Coomer.
    Visitation was held from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Visitation was also held from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon at Clay City United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 28, 2024, with funeral services officiated by Bro. Kim Rose immediately following at 12 Noon.
    Burial was at Resthaven Cemetery in Stanton with Shannon Burton, Michael Estes, Carl Snowden, Jamison Wiegel, Ben Rose, Clint Rose, Dillon Cundiff, and Charlie Randell serving as active pallbearers.

Dr. Randall Wheeler McCoy

    Dr. Randall Wheeler McCoy, age 67, beloved husband of Sandra McCoy, passed into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at his home in Stanton, Kentucky. He was born in South Williamson, Kentucky, on November 15, 1957, to the late Wheeler Lanzo McCoy and the late Gertrude Spaulding McCoy.
    Randall, a distinguished graduate of Morehead State University, advanced his academic pursuits by earning a Doctor of Education from the University of Georgia. During the vibrant decade of the 1990s, he took on the role of state advisor for Phi Beta Lambda, guiding young leaders in their professional development. Randall dedicated himself as an Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems at Morehead State University, where his profound knowledge and passion for teaching inspired countless students and he continued his leadership in Phi Beta Lambda as an advisor.
    Beyond his academic contributions, he was deeply embedded in his community, being an active member of Mt. Sterling Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. There, Randall embraced leadership roles as a deacon and elder, passionately teaching Bible study and contributing to church activities with unwavering enthusiasm. His commitment to service was evident in every aspect of his life.
    Randall's historical interests brought him into the fold of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, where he participated in numerous Civil War reenactments across significant battlefields such as Perryville, Stone Mountain, Spring Hill, Franklin, and Gettysburg. His dedication to history even landed him a role in the acclaimed 1993 movie, Gettysburg, where he brought the past to life on screen.
    Known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor, Randall had a natural talent for making others laugh. He was a devoted family man, always prioritizing the desires and dreams of his daughters, ensuring they had everything they wished for. His heart swelled with joy when surrounded by his beloved grandchildren, and the affection he held for his wife was evident in every interaction they shared. Strong-minded and persistent, Randall was a deep thinker who cherished the pursuit of knowledge. His love for learning never waned, and he approached life with a sense of curiosity that was both admirable and inspiring. In every aspect of his life, he left a lasting impression, remembered for the warmth and joy he brought to those around him.
    In addition to his parents, Randall is preceded in death by his sister, Linda Fugitt.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Victoria Jasser of Stanton and Rebekkah Layne (Brian) of Jeffersonville; four brothers, Rick McCoy and Timothy McCoy (Mary Lou), both of Williamson, West Virginia; Danny McCoy (Patricia) of White Pine, Tennessee; and Terry McCoy (Tonya) of Sissonville, West Virginia; one sister, Brenda Savage of Roanoke, West Virginia; two grandchildren, Daleela Jasser and Aleena Jasser; and several nieces and nephews.
    Visitation was held from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services officiated by Rev. Ernest Walls were held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024.
    Burial was held at Vaughn’s Mill Cemetery in Clay City with Brian Layne, Bryan Matheny, Elmer Wayne Stamper, Rob Robinson, Bruce Treash, Junebug Fugitt, Ryan McCoy, Matthew McCoy, and Rick McCoy, Jr. serving as active pallbearers.

    Michael had a love for cars. He always enjoyed going to car shows and painting cars.
    Survivors include his mother, Peggy Powell; two sons, Michael Dewayne Ratliff Jr. and Dawson Ratliff (Briana Jones); a daughter, Megan Ratliff (Josh King); two brothers, Mitchell Ratliff (Debbie) and Alan Scott; a sister, Terry Ayers; four grandchildren, Kyndall King, Chandler King, Carleigh King, Wyatt Ratliff; and special fur babies, Gunner and Gabby.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Clayton Ratliff; his stepfather, Estill Powell; and special friend, Alex Shuler.

    Survivors include his wife, Alma Moore; two daughters, Sonja Stone and Khristen Rogers; a brother, Herbert Moore; a sister, Velma Nixon; two grandchildren, Jordan Moore (Nikki) and Jami Stone; and seven great grandchildren, Audi Moore, Gable Moore, Ender Moore, Braylee Stone, Braden Stone, Ava Stone, and Emma Stone.

    Cora Edie Shackelford, age 75, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky. She was born in Spider, Knott County, Kentucky, to the late Paul Bowen and the late Anne Back Bowen.
    Edie was a devoted homemaker whose nurturing spirit extended beyond her home. In addition to managing her household, she served as a nurse's aide at the Breathitt County Nursing Center, where her compassionate nature shone through in her care for the elderly. Additionally, she worked as a secretary for Red River Hardwoods in Clay City, balancing her professional responsibilities with skill and grace.
    Edie had a deep passion for crafts, often immersing herself in creative projects that brought joy and color to her life. Her vegetable garden flourished under her attentive care, bursting with fresh produce that she loved to share with family and friends. The flower beds around her home were a testament to her green thumb, vibrant with blooms that reflected her cheerful disposition. When her children were young, Edie eagerly participated in school activities, fostering a sense of community and support. She cherished the memories of clogging at Hoedown Island, where she danced joyfully with her daughter, Angie, creating lasting bonds through rhythm and laughter.
    Family was the cornerstone of Edie's life. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren, weaving stories and laughter into every moment they shared. Known for her caring and nurturing personality, Edie was a trusted source of wisdom, always ready to lend a listening ear and offer invaluable advice to her children, grandchildren, and their friends. Her warmth and love resonated deeply, making her a beloved figure in their lives.
    In addition to her parents, Edie is preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Bowen and Alger Bowen; and two sisters, Josephine Stamper and Pauline Dixon.
    She is survived by her husband, John C. Shackelford, Sr. of Stanton; one son, John C. Shackelford, Jr. (Sara) of Mt. Sterling; one daughter, Angie VanBebber (David) of Winchester; and four grandchildren: Wyatt Clark (Alli), Kennedy Grace Shackelford, Cash VanBebber, and Ty VanBebber.
    Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2024, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services, officiated by Brother Ron Ingram, will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m., immediately following visitation.

Beulah Katherine Frazier

    Beulah Katherine Frazier, age 94, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky.
    She was born at Mountain Springs, Kentucky, to the late Ora Clay Frazier and the late Dorothy Marie Rogers Frazier. Katherine proudly graduated from Estill County High School in 1948, marking the beginning of a life filled with dedication and service to her community. As the very first director of the Powell County Senior Citizens Center, she played a vital role in supporting and uplifting the local elderly population.
    Katherine had a passion for sewing and quilting, often creating beautiful handmade pieces that showcased her creativity and skill. In addition to her artistic pursuits, she found great joy in farming, tending to her garden alongside her husband. Together, they nurtured their land, cultivating a bountiful harvest that fueled their love for canning the delicious vegetables they grew. Katherine's strong-willed nature and tireless work ethic were evident in every endeavor she undertook. Above all, Katherine cherished her family, finding immense joy in the laughter and love shared with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her heart brimmed with pride for her family, and she dedicated her time to creating lasting memories with them, reflecting the deep bonds she fostered throughout her life.
    In addition to her parents, Katherine is preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Frazier; her brother, Edward Frazier; her sister, Lodena Knox; her son, Phillip D. Frazier; and her daughter, Patty Neal.
    She is survived by her son-in-law, R. Lee Neal; her daughter-in-law, Vivian Frazier; six grandchildren, Phillip Darron Frazier (Alicia), Daphne Fannin, Kevin Neal (Arlene), Karron Carter (Frank), Timothy Frazier, and Kimberly Parks (Russell); 13 great grandchildren, Ethan Frazier, Katherine Frazier, Grace Fannin, Christian Fannin, Molly Fannin, John Parks, Julia Parks, Neeli Beth Neal, Kenna Neal, Kaelyn Neal, Tylar Carter, Rylee Carter, and Dylan Carter; and three step-great grandchildren, Sierra Martin (Allen), Trever Bloom (Haley), and Allison Hall (Chris).
    Visitation will be held from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services, officiated by Brother Sammy Faulkner, will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m., immediately following visitation.
    Burial will be at the Frazier Family Cemetery on Furnace Mountain in Stanton with Tylar Carter, Dylan Carter, Frank Carter, Ethan Frazier, John Parks, and Christian Fannin serving as active pallbearers.

    Jesse Wayne Bach passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the age of 84. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by love, with his sweet girls, Liza Jane and Emmy Lou beside him; where they have been his constant companions for the past eleven years.
    He was prededed in death by his beloved wife, Genevieve Pence Bach; his mother and father, Verna and Cord Bach; and his brother, Henry Back.
    Mr. Bach is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Marty Denniston; three grandsons, Wyatt Denniston (Savannah), Sawyer Denniston (Brandi), and Michael Denniston (Brittany); as well as two great grandsons, Dallas Denniston and Jaxon Weddington, who kept him always entertained.
    He is also survived by three sisters, Mamie Helton, Gracie Tinkis and Linda Bach; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
    We loved him so very much and will carry him in our hearts forever!

    Jessica found solace in her flower garden, a sanctuary where she could escape and immerse herself in the beauty of nature. Her love for travel was fueled by a desire to connect with the world, as she yearned to discover new places, always seeking to enrich her life. Jessica's heart was big, filled with kindness and compassion; she poured herself into helping others whenever she could, recognizing the importance of being there for those in need.
    In addition to her parents, Jessica is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Herley Sparks; her paternal grandfather, Jerry Lee Scott; and her paternal grandmother, Shirley Patrick Scott.
    She is survived by her maternal grandmother, Elaine Walters of Clay City; and two sons, Jalee Desane Crabtree (Katlynn) of Winchester and Jager Young of Irvine.
    Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky.     Arthur thrived in the great outdoors, finding joy in his work as a landscaper and his passion for hunting ginseng. He treasured time spent with his family, especially his nephews, sharing fishing trips and exhilarating hunting adventures that deepened their bonds. A skilled forager, Arthur delighted in uncovering nature s hidden treasures, eager to pass on his knowledge. His captivating storytelling added a magical touch to every gathering, while his warmth and kindness drew people in. With an infectious sense of humor, he dedicated himself to making others laugh, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him. In addition to his parents,

    He was born April 18, 1981 in Harlan, Kentucky to the late Bennie Ellis Smith and Sheena Colette Sokolowski.
    Survivors include his mother, Sheena Colette Smith; his wife, Wynemia Hale; three sons, Dylan Thomas Brown, Joseph Smith, and Randy Patrick Allen Smith; five daughters, Raujia Renai Hale, Brianna Madison Hale, Laura Ann Shortridge, Sheena Faye Smith, and Elsa LaShaye Smith; and two brothers, McKinley Edward Smith and Walter Kansas Smith.
