Charles D. Cox

    Charles D. Cox, age 89, of Irvine, Kentucky, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
    He was born on August 19, 1935, in Irvine. Charles is the son of the late Robert and Eva M. Cox.
    Charles is retired from the State Highway Garage. He loved his westerns and the Three Stooges; he also loved his peanut butter milkshakes from Sonic.
    Mr. Cox is preceded in death by three brothers, Glyndon Cox, Earl Cox, and Louis Cox; and one sister, Anna Lee Rogers.
    Charles is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eva McKinney Cox; two daughters, Ova Jean Harris (Tony) and Tassie Willis (Leon); two sons, Michael Cox (Cathy) and Eric Cox (Aimee); six grandchildren, Jeremy and Ashley Abney, Amber Harris, Destinee Willis, Zack Reeves, and Tiffany Cox; and three great grandchildren, Lainey Pearson Garrett, Raylee Farthing, and Jasper Hardy.
    Funeral services for Charles D. Cox will be conducted on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals. Brother Donnie Watson will be officiating. Interment will follow in the South Irvine Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
    Pallbearers will be Michael and Eric Cox, Tony Harris, Ashley Abney, Leon Reeves, and Matt Pearson Garrett.

James Phillip Baker

    James Phillip Baker, age 75, of Sandhill Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025, at his home.
    He was born April 13, 1949, in Ravenna, Kentucky, and was the son of the late William “Peanut” Baker and Geneva Watson. He retired from Lexmark and the Bluegrass Army Depot and had lived in Estill County most of his life. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
    Mr. Baker is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nettie Hall Baker; two daughters, Amy Denham (Jimmy) of Mt. Vernon and Stacie Cowen (Adam) of Richmond; one sister, Judy Ferguson of Ohio; four grandchildren, Corey Baker (Nichole), Alex Cowen (Jacob), Katie Denham (Robert), and Austin Kirby; and two great grandchildren, Macy June Baker and Jaclyn Paige Baker.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Nellie Holtzclaw.
    Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 17, 2025, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home with Corey Baker officiating. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Pallbearers are Adam Cowen, Jimmy Denham, Corey Baker, Austin Kirby, Alex Cowen, and Keith Tuttle.

Daniel Lenuly Abney

    Daniel Lenuly Abney, age 71, of Blackburn Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, following a short illness.
    He was born November 28, 1953, in Flint, Michigan and was the son of the late Lenlie Audry Abney and Joyce Dustin Abney. He retired from Trane and was a member of the Millers Creek Church of God. He had lived in Estill County for most of his life.
    Mr. Abney is survived by his wife, Charlene Isaacs Abney; his daughter, Rebecca Rogers (Shawn); two sisters, Teresa Nealey and Patrica Ann Kershow (Craig); four granddaughters, Morgan Faye Rose (Snowden), Madison Paige McKinney (James), Adrianne Brooke Rogers, and Billie Pierce Smith (Taylor); six great grandsons and five great granddaughters; a daughter-in-law, Denise Painter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Fannie Maxine Abney; and his son, Bradley Everett Abney.
    Funeral services were conducted Sunday, January 12, 2025, 2 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home with Bro. Sidney Sparks officiating. Burial was at the Cobb Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Charles Edward Murphy

    Charles Edward Murphy, age 81, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
    He was the son of the late Leonard and Rose Alma Estes Murphy, born in Estill County on November 1, 1943. He had worked at Pieratt’s and had attended Red House Baptist Church. He was also a Baptist minister.
    Mr. Murphy united in marriage to Genevee Vest “Peachy” Murphy who passed away on February 27, 2004.
    Survivors include one sister, Judy Murphy; his niece, Misty Murphy; and three great nephews, Christopher Shanks, Brian Shanks and Jacob Riddell.
    In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Ray Murphy.
    A Committal Service was conducted at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens, 4915 Harrodsburg Road, Nicholasville, Kentucky.

    Grace B. Ruble Hensley Berry, age 100, of Waco, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday morning, January 7, 2025, at her granddaughter’s home.
    She was a Madison County native, born September 27, 1924, the daughter of the late Rollie & Maude Rose Ruble. She was a member of the Dreyfus Christian Church, and attended the Church of Christ in Irvine, Kentucky. Grace lived most of her life in Madison County and Dayton, Ohio. She was a homemaker and worked at the Blue Grass Depot in the early years, and later at Westinghouse.
    Survivors include her grandchildren, Robin Gould (Jeff), and Timothy Casey (Carolyn); her son-in-law, Preacher Bob Casey; three great grandchildren, Adam Gould, Jaleesa Willoughby (Rick), and Candace Gould; five great, great grandchildren, Allisyn Gould, Korbin Kiser, Ryder Gould, Everly Grace Kiser, and Mackenzie Willoughby; as well as nieces, nephews and many other family and friends.
    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Berry was preceded in death by her husbands, Snorri Hensley, Jr. and Jack C. Berry; her daughter, Linda Casey; one infant grandchild, Tonya Casey; and 15 siblings.
    Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, January 10, 2025, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond. Burial followed in the Flatwoods Cemetery. Visitation was after 11 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home.

Martha Lynn Thomas King

    Martha Lynn Thomas King, age 77, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at Telford Terrace in Richmond, Kentucky. She was the widow of Gail Edward King.
    Lynn was born on October 26, 1947 in Irvine, Kentucky, and was the daughter of Gilbert Martin Thomas and Martha Emily Durbin Thomas, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a retired schoolteacher, spending most of her career at St. Mark Catholic School in Richmond and was awarded Madison County Teacher of the Year twice.
    Survivors include two sons, Jason Edward King (Kelly DeLuca King) of San Antonio, Texas; and Todd Thomas King (Angel Mullins King) of Richmond; and grandchildren, Colleen King, Thomas King, Benjamin King, Aliceson King and Jessica King.
    Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday January 9, 2025 at St. Mark Catholic Church in Richmond, Kentucky. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 10th, also at St. Mark, with Fr. Tom Farrell officiating. All are welcome.
    In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her honor to St Mark Catholic School.

    Clifford Steven Crawford, age 64, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Irvine Nursing and Rehabilitation.
    Clifford was born on January 13,1960, Winchester, Kentucky, to the late Clyde D. and Mattie Lou Dickerson Crawford.
    Along with his parents, Clifford is preceded in death by one sister, Sherry Faye Goolman.
    Survivors include two children, Clifford Steven Crawford Jr. and Jason Jeremiah Crawford; one brother, Gord Timothy Crawford, three sisters, Connie Lorraine Clemmons, Linda Maryland Sams and Vicki Brinegar, along with many other family members and friends to miss him and to mourn his passing.
    Clifford requested cremation and there may be a memorial service at a later date.

    Mary Alva Wise Fox, age 84, was born February 23, 1940, in Estill County, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
    She was the daughter of the late Elva Walker and Mary Francis Clark Wise, and wife of the late Harry Dale Fox. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church. She had lived in Estill County for most of her life. She was a retired Bus Driver with the Estill County Board of Education.
    Mrs. Fox is survived by three daughters, Tina Marie & David Arvin, Sherry Lynn Fox, and Belinda & Mark Puckett; two two sons, Harry Dwain Fox and Larry Dale Fox; four grandchildren, Timothy & Ashley Arvin, Neysa & Daniel Cordial, Lance & Cindy Arvin, and Jacob & Ratisha Puckett; and one sister, Lynda (Montie) Parks
    In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Wilbert E., Alonzo B., and James O. Wise; and sisters, Opal C. Critchfield, Thelma Dunaway, Chrystal Ashcraft, Elfreeda Wickizer, Allene Wise, and Wavlene Dunaway.
    Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 10, 2025, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kenny Dotson officiating. Burial will be at the Wise Farm Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.

    Stephen Curtis Moon, age 32, of Roberts Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 3, 2025, at his home.
    He was born August 19, 1992, in Lexington, Kentucky, and was the son of Pamela Gayle Rose Chaney and the late Stephen Kent Moon. He received his certificate from the Estill County High School and was baptized at the South Irvine Christian Church. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Moon is survived by his mother, Pamela Gayle Rose Chaney; his stepfather, Jason Chaney; one brother, Travis Moon of Irvine; one sister, Misty Moon of Owingsville; and one half-sister, Brooklyn Moon of Winchester.

    Lucille Lakes Durham, age 87, of Cedar Grove Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Berea, following a long illness.
    Born March 4, 1937, in Jackson County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Luther Taft Lakes and Modena Cox Lakes. She was a housewife and mother and had lived in Estill County most of her life. She was a member of the Baptist Faith and loved watching WLJC on television.
    She is survived by three daughters, Cathy Sue Durham Burrough, Marlene Durham McKinney, both of Irvine; and Shelia Jo Durham (Jennifer Hitch) of Richmond; one son, Benual Taft Durham of Irvine; one sister, Denna Faye Bowles of Richmond; two brothers, Delbert Lakes of Missouri and Johnny Lakes of Irvine; 13 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Alena Powell and Ella Mae Lakes; three brothers, Charles Ermin Lakes, James “Joe” Lakes, and Billy Ray Lakes; and one grandchild.
    Funeral services were conducted Saturday, January 4, 2025, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home with Bro. McKaylyn Harris officiating. Burial was at the South Irvine Cemetery. Visitation was held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    Rita Williams Fore, age 71, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away at her home on Thursday, January 2, 2025. Rita was born on April 22, 1953, in Richmond, Kentucky to the late C.T Bimbo Williams Jr., and Bertheda Mays Williams.
    Along with her parents, Rita was preceded in death by one daughter, Vernonda Lynn Parsons; and one brother, C.T “Ceder” Williams III.
    Rita is survived by her husband, Blayne Linus Fore; three sons, Jerry “Round Baby" Parsons Jr., Jonathan Fore, and Joshua Aaron Fore Birchfield; one daughter, Amber Kay Fore Birchfield; three grandchildren, Jerah Zody Parsons, Reese Caigen Johnson, and Riley Cole Birchfield; and one special friend, Angelia Overbay (Raymond); along with many other family and friends to miss her and mourn her passing.

    Douglas Lane Kirby age 83, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, in Winchester, Kentucky surrounded by his loving family.
    Doug was born on February 3, 1941, in Irvine, Kentucky to the late Charles and Elsie Scrivner Kirby. He was a life-long member of the Thomas Baptist Church and served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher and superintendent.
    In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Provie Mae Barker Kirby; a daughter, Peggy Sue Kirby; and one brother, Richard Kirby.
    Survivors include two sons, Ricky Kirby (Brenda) and Timothy Kirby (Pam); one daughter, Regina Oliver (Neal); eight grandchildren, Ansela (John), Jon (Annie), Eric (Courtney), Kayla (Josh), Asha (Demetrius), Emily, Caitlin (Derek), and Nicholas (Savannah); 13 great grandchildren, Adam, Caleb, Emma, Colt Douglas, Gracie Mae, Beckett, Abram, Sophia, Bishop, Xavier, Tucker, Benny and Weston; one brother, Jerry Kirby (Vydra); and one sister, Dixie McQueen; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends who will miss him and mourn his passing.
    Funeral services for Douglas Lane Kirby were held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Thomas Baptist Church with Brother Tommy Edwards officiating. Interment followed in the Douglas L. Kirby Family Cemetery. The family received friends on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 5:30-9 p.m. at the Church.

Linda Carol Augustine

    Linda Carol Augustine departed this life on Monday, December 30, 2024, at her home in Irvine, Kentucky. She was born on February 12, 1944, in Greensboro, North Carolina to the late Paul Eugene and Madeline Inez Holder Smith.
    Linda was a legal secretary for many years. She loved to decorate her home and loved to be outdoors working in the yard with her flowers. Linda loved animals of all kinds, and they loved her, she volunteered with the Ladies Auxiliary at the hospital in Irvine. She enjoyed shopping at thrift stores and yard sales.
    Along with her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest Augustine of Waco, Kentucky.
    Survivors include one sister, Pattie Mead and brother-in-law, Stanley Mead of Westminster Maryland; one brother, Larry Smith of Florida; two nieces, Anna Puckett of Irvine, and Lari Craig (Jason) of Westminster, Maryland; one nephew, David Mead (Marci) of Oahu, Hawaii; a great niece and three great nephews, Alyssa, Jason, Jr., Isaac and Caleb of Westminster, Maryland.
    A memorial service for Linda Carol Augustine will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals. Pastor Joe Hall will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 a.m. until the time of service.

    Garrett Edward Ballard, age 85, of Geneva Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, December 30, 2024, at his home following a short illness.
    He was born September 13, 1939, in Estill County and was the son of Crawford and Julie Catherine McIntosh Gaines. He was a member of the Ravenna Church of the Nazarene and a former member of the National Guards. He was a business owner and had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Ballard is survived by two sons, Gary Ballard (Jamie) of Irvine and Randy Ballard of Richmond; two grandchildren, Shawn Ballard (Samantha) and Jon Tracy Ballard (Sara); and four great grandchildren.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Hall and Martha Miller.
    Private graveside services were conducted Sunday, January 5, 2025, 2 p.m., at the Newton Cemetery with Bro. Chris Winkler officiating.

    Aleen Muncie Johnson, age 81, of Dry Branch Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2024, at the Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond.
    She was born June 21, 1943, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Sam and Sally Ann Walling Wiseman. She was a retired cook with the Estill County School System and a lifelong loving caregiver. She was a member of the Ravenna Church of God where she had served in the bus ministry, the youth program, and the ladies ministry.
    Mrs. Johnson is survived by three sisters, Delois Long (Michael), Polly Hall (Wayne), both of Irvine; and Wilma Chaney (Larry) of Lexington; and one brother, Phillip Howard Wiseman (Margaret) of LaGrange.
    She was preceded in death by her husbands, Shannon Douglas Muncie and Lee Johnson; her daughter, Kathy Muncie Rawlins; and three sisters, Opal West, Arine Henry, and Linda Abney.
    Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, January 1, 2025, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Chris Moore officiating. Burial was at Sonny Powell Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday, December 31st from 6-9 p.m.

    Ronald Gene Embs, 88, widower of Helen Joyce Abney Embs, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024, at his home in Winchester, Kentucky.
    Born September 15, 1936, in Clark County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Norval and Mallie Berryman Embs. Ronald was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Log Lick Christian Church.
    Survivors include his children, Karen Hall (Danny), Dana Baldanza (Nick), and Stephen Embs; grandchildren, Abree Baldanza, Jason Hall, Danny Hall Jr., Kristin Thomas, and Shelby Montelongo; eight great grandchildren; two nephews, David Lee Gabbard and Kevin Richardson; and two nieces, Sherry Toler and Jessica Pennington; as well as several extended family members and friends.
    In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Loretta Gabbard.
    A graveside service was held in the fellowship hall of Log Lick Christian Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at the Log Lick Cemetery by preachers Doyle Spry and Blake Rush.

Kenneth D. Fugate

    Kenneth D. Fugate, age 64, of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at University of Kentucky Saint Claire Hospital in Morehead, Kentucky.
    He was born March 12, 1960, in Hazard, Kentucky to the late Bert Fugate and Fannie Combs Ritchie. Ken had an incredible love for music, embracing everything from Christian and Gospel to Rock and Bluegrass. His connection to music was tangible as he skillfully played both electric and acoustic guitars, which brought him immense happiness. His deep affection for his wife, children, and grandchildren was evident in the quality time he cherished with them, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
    One of his prized possessions was his classic 1966 Chevelle, a car that he often spent hours working on and enjoyed taking it for drives. Ken also enjoyed the sense of freedom when riding his motorcycle. Those who knew him would describe him as one of the most selfless people, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. His remarkable sense of humor brought light to everyone around him, and it was clear that Ken approached life with unwavering happiness and a nurturing spirit. His presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
    In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his dear friend, J.D. McClure.
    In addition to his mother, Ken is survived by his wife, Teresa Spencer Fugate of Clay City; a daughter, Crystal Roberson (Daniel) of Owingsville; a son, Johnny Cook of Stanton; a daughter, Misty Rose of Alabama; three sisters, Florence King (Melvin) of Clay City, Charlene Spencer (Linville) and Shirley Miller (T.K.), both of Breathitt County; one brother, Gary Smith of Breathitt County; eight grandchildren, Gabe Crabtree (Paley), Madison Crabtree, Jacob Roberson, Colby Cook (Ashton), Colton Cook, Kaylee Rose, Gavin Rose, and Tate Rose; one great grandchild, Esmerae Rose; and a host of nieces and nephews.
    Visitation was held from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services were held at the funeral home immediately following at 7 p.m.
    Honorary pallbearers were Gabe Crabtree, Daniel Roberson, Colby Cook, Colton Cook, Jacob Roberson, Johnny Cook, Seth Grigsby, and Melvin King.

    Katherine Ann Lawson, age 86, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025 in Clay City, Kentucky.
    She was born March 7, 1938 to the late Robert and Haley King Ashley.
    Survivors include her daughters, Molly Pingleton, Ruby Ledford, Donna Wagner, Nancy Branham, and Eliza Conner; one son, Jerry Luke; 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
    Services will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2025, 2 p.m., at the Branham Cemetery, Branham Cemetery Road (off KY-77) at Slade, Kentucky.

Sherwin Cody Sheffield

    Sherwin Cody Sheffield, age 31, of Frames Branch Road, Clay City, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky.
    He was born in Lexington, Kentucky, on July 11, 1993, to the late John William Sheffield and Anna Abrams Sheffield. Cody proudly graduated from Powell County High School in the Class of 2012, where he earned a reputation as a dedicated and spirited member of the successful Pirates football team.
    His athletic prowess and teamwork laid a strong foundation for his career, which flourished at the Ale-8 One Bottling Company, where he excelled as a warehouse supervisor, demonstrating his leadership and commitment to excellence.
    Deeply rooted in his faith, Cody was a devout believer in the God of the Bible and practiced the principles of the Baptist faith, which guided him in life.
    He was the unwavering rock that held his family together. Cody cherished his mother with profound love and devotion, and as a beloved uncle, he served as an inspiring role model for his nephews, instilling in them the values of kindness and perseverance.
    A selfless soul, Cody had a remarkable ability to bring joy to those around him, effortlessly lifting spirits with his great sense of humor and vibrant personality. His warm presence left an indelible mark on everyone he met, making the world a brighter, happier place.
    In addition to his mother, he is survived by one sister, Jessica Sheffield of Campton; one brother, John Leonard Sheffield of Florida; one half-brother, Terry Charlton of Clay City; and two nephews, Conner Davidson and Braydon Barnes.
    Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services officiated by Bro. Fred White and Bro. Brad Epperson will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2024.
    Burial will be held at Stonegate Cemetery in Stanton with E.J. Goodwin, Anthony Sheffield, Tommy Booth, Chad Townsend, Ryan Ison, Brett Henry, Terry Charlton, and Ben Adams serving as active pallbearers.
    Honorary pallbearers are his Ale-8 One Bottling Company work family.

    Teresa Pearl Kennon, age 60, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. She was born in Lexington to the late Carl Cecil Drake and Rachel Roberts Drake of Stanton.
    Teresa had an immense love for her family, often finding herself wrapped in the joyful company of her grandchildren, where every moment spent together felt like a treasure. She found great joy in her work at the Mountain Park Dragway, where the thrill of racing invigorated her spirit. Whether Teresa was venturing along scenic hiking trails, eagerly searching for glistening agate rocks with her grandkids, or swimming under the open sky, the great outdoors brought her a deep sense of peace and exhilaration. With her warm and generous nature, she effortlessly spread joy, creating an environment filled with smiles and a sense of belonging. Her selflessness shone brightly as she gave freely of herself, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met.
    In addition to her father, Teresa is preceded in death by her son, Zack Anthony Charles, Jr.; and her granddaughter, Danika Leighton Charles.
    In addition to her mother, she is survived by her companion, Shane Kennon; two daughters, Jessica Charles (Jerry Burnham) of Mt. Sterling and Emily Charles (Justin Powell) of Winchester; two brothers, Carlton Drake (Carolyn) and Charles “Punkin” Drake, both of Stanton; and six grandchildren, Madison Pearle Ledford, Anna Grace Charles, Isabella Saye Charles, Palmer Gray Charles, Owen Barrett Powell, and Logan Anthony Powell.
    Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 7 p.m., immediately following visitation.

    Mervin Eugene Gross, age 81, passed away Monday, December 30, 2024 at his home in Lexington, Kentucky.
    He was born August 18, 1943 in Breathitt County to the late Clayton & Mattie Watkins Gross.
    Mr. Gross is survived by one son, Mervin Gross, Jr. (Sandy); two daughters, Dawn Marie Costello (Mike) and Joanna Gross; one brother, Ralph Gross; one sister, Joyce Klave; 13 grandchildren, Cassie Reyes (Daniel), Jennifer Costello, Mikey Costello, Donnie Wilson, Kim Gross, Porter Gross, Mervin Gross, Charles Gross, Christy Michelle Gillum (Mike), Amy Faye Watkins, Whitney Thompson, Brandy Rose, and Jeff Willhoite; 14 great grandchildren; and 16 great, great grandchildren.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Friend Gross; a daughter, Stephanie Wilson; a brother Earl Gross; three sisters Maudie Gabbard, Ella Oaks and Ruby Fisher; and a grandson, Robbie Wilson.
    Funeral services were held with Rev. Mark Roysdon officiating at 5 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Wells Funeral Home in Stanton. Visitation preceded the funeral on Friday, beginning at 2 p.m. for family and 3 p.m. for friends. Interment will occur at a date and time to be later determined at Evergreen Memory Gardens, 5364 Lexington Rd, Paris, KY.
