James Paul Denniston

    James Paul Denniston, age 86, of Lilly Ferry Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025, at his home following a long illness.
    He was born May 16, 1938, in Harrison County and was the son of the late Robert Fulton Denniston and Mary Lee Spencer Denniston. He retired from Woodford Builders and was a member of the Ravenna Nazarene Church. He was a United States Marine Veteran.
    Mr. Denniston was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Geneva Puckett Denniston, and he is survived by one sister, Katherine Denniston; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend, James Mullins.
    In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
    Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 30, 2025, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Merle Travis officiating. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Pallbearers are David Banks, Gene Banks, Billy Travis, Dylan Travis, Marty Capo, and Jack Stickney.

Roy Lee Embs

    Roy Lee Embs, age 78, of Wisemantown Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Marcum and Wallace Hospital, following a long illness.
    He was born May 1, 1946 in Estill County and was the son of the late Herbert and Lucille Witt Embs. He retired from CSX where he worked as an Engineer. He loved his family and fishing, and he had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Embs was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Lavon Scrivner Embs, and he is survived by one daughter, Shaye Roberts (Robbie) of Estill County; one sister, Henrietta Nyffler of Indiana; one brother, Scottie Embs of Estill County; two grandchildren, Rachael Roberts (Nick) and Ratisha Puckett (Jacob); four great grandchildren, Brennan Tuttle, Lukas Puckett, Shelby Puckett, and Taylor Puckett; and a special sister-in-law, Tammy Pewitt.
    In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Shelby Embs, Herby Embs, and Johnny “Hot Dog” Embs.
    Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 29, 2025, 12 Noon, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kevin Turpin and Bro. Doug Baker officiating. Burial will be at the White Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
    Pallbearers are Brennan Tuttle, Lukas Puckett, Jacob Puckett, Nick Fitzpatrick, Brandon Prewitt, and Eric Prewitt.
    Honorary pallbearers are Jeff Hix, Larry Honchell, Ronnie Mays, Mark Metcalf, Clay Tussey, Donald “Dog Tick” McIntosh; all of his Fishing Buddies, his Railroad Family, and his nephews and nieces.

Gina Lynn Plowman Clark

    Gina Lynn Plowman Clark, age 57, of Sandhill Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington, following a short illness.
    She was born December 29, 1967, in Hamilton, Ohio and was the daughter of Mitchell G. Plowman Sr. and Mary Louise Stele Williams. She was a Homemaker and Jack of All Trades, as well as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She attended the Thomas Baptist Church, and she had lived in Estill County for most of her life.
    In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, William Clark; three daughters, Rhonda Knight of Georgia, Stephanie Hubbard (Taylor), and Rachel Clark (Justin Jeffcoat), both of South Carolina; one son, Jerison Clark of Winchester; three sisters, Cynthia Miller of Estill County, Michele Montgomery (Richard) of Fayette County, and Glenda Garrod (Steve) of Estill County; one brother, Mitchell Plowman Jr. (Tonya) of Estill County; five grandchildren, Destiny, Kyle, Brenden, Landen, and Melissa; several nieces and nephews, and her beloved pet, Bernie.
    A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, 3 p.m., at the Thomas Baptist Church with Bro. Rick Kirby officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church.

Pauline C. Horn

    Pauline C. Horn, age 83, a resident of the Irvine Nursing and Rehab Center, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Marcum and Wallace Hospital in Irvine, Kentucky, following a long illness.
    She was born July 11, 1941, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Christopher and Florence Young Crowe. She was a retired Seamstress and Union Representative for Carhartt and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She had lived in Estill County for most of her life.
    Mrs. Horn was preceded in death by her husband, James Junior Horn; and she is survived by one daughter, Susan Farthing; two brothers, Billy Dean Crowe and James R. Crowe; four grandchildren, James Farthing, Dale Farthing Jr., Michael Farthing, and Billie Caudill; two great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hinds and Jacob Neal; two great, great grandchildren, Brynlee Beckler and Lakelyn Beckler; and many other family members and friends to miss her and mourn her passing.
    In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Lou Horn Arvin; one sister, Lena Mae Crowe; four brothers, Jessie Crowe, Charles Crowe, Clifton Crowe, and her twin brother Rev. Paul Crowe; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Arvin and Alisha Arvin.

Bobby Glenn Sherrard

    Bobby Glenn Sherrard, age 90, of Main Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond, following a short illness.
    He was born February 17, 1934, in Estill County and was the son of the late Harold and Georgia Evans Sherrard. He was the retired Owner of B.G. Sherrard Jewelers and also retired from the Estill County Public School System, where he worked as an Industrial Arts Teacher. He was an Elder Emeritus of the Irvine First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, a member of the Irvine Masonic Lodge, and a founding member and former vice president of the Irvine Lions Club. He was also a United States Navy Veteran. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Sherrard was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Jo Sherrard, and he is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline Jo Graves (Allen) of Fayette County; two sons, Robert Daniel Sherrard (Kimberly) of Franklin County and Harold Glenn Sherrard (Melyna) of Africa; and seven grandchildren, Samuel Calvin Sherrard, Marisol Isabella Graves, Mary Grace Sherrard, Sutton Caroline Sherrard, Jacob Paul Sherrard, Carrington Annabelle Sherrard, and London Elizabeth Sherrard.
    In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ann Edwards.
    Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 28, 2025, 1 p.m., at the Irvine First Christian Church with Bro. Matt Higle officiating. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Irvine First Christian Church.

Frank "Bud" Moore

    Frank "Bud" Moore of Campton, Kentucky, beloved husband of 61 years to Junnie Patton Moore, departed this life on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at the age of 88 years and 2 days.
    He was a son of the late Jesse C. Moore and Ida Elkins Moore, born in Bethany, Kentucky on January 19, 1937. He was a farmer and he was also a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.
    Mr. Moore is survived by his loving wife, Junnie Patton Moore; one daughter, Rita Moore Watkins (Chris) of Campton; two grandchildren, Franklin Watkins (Kendra) and Delsie Miller (Matthew); three great grandchildren, Waylon Watkins, Maverick Miller and Knox Watkins; two brothers, John Henry Moore and Ronald Keith Moore, both of Irvine; and three sisters, Elizabeth Moore Maloney and Patricia Moore, both of Campton, and Mildred Moore Mitchel of Mt. Sterling.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse C. Moore and Ida Elkins Moore; three brothers, Wardy Lee Moore, Reed Lewis Moore and Dewey "Bush" Moore; and three sisters, Josephine Moore Patton, Mary Moore Dickey, and Della Moore Patton.
    He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
    Visitation was held Saturday, January 25, 2025 beginning at 6 p.m. at Porter and Son Funeral Directors, Campton. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 26th, beginning at 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Bro. Eddie Nickell officiating.
    Burial was at George Moore Cemetery, Whetstone, Kentucky.
    Serving as pallbearers were George Dickey, Josh Pratt, Dalton Cox, Johnathon Purvis, Travis Nelson, Anthony Watkins and A.J. Holland.

Ovelene Cornett

    Ovelene Cornett, 65, of Moraine, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at her home.
    She was born in Dayton, Ohio to Robert and Gladys Spicer Isaacs on September 10, 1959. She went to school at Northridge. She worked as a janitor for Johnson & Gordon at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for many years.
    Ovelene was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Gladys; husbands Leroy Volgamore and Ronald K. Cornett; and two brothers, Bobby and Vernon.
    She is survived by her significant other, David W. Preston; her children, Ricky Nunnery Jr. (Tammy), Wendy M. Bright (Rob), and Robert Nunnery (Amanda); and her six sisters, Annabelle Isaacs, Patricia Miniard, Eula Scharff, Loretta Honshul, Violet Cook and Jacqueline Shelton; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by several Estill County cousins.
    Funeral services will be private for family at a later date.

Laura J. Spencer

    Laura J. Spencer, age 54, of Winchester, Kentucky, completed her journey of life on Monday, January 6, 2025 at UK Hospital in Lexington, surrounded by family.
    She is the daughter of the late Priscilla Gray and Raymond Ennis. A native of Winchester, she was raised on the river in the small community of Ford, Kentucky. She grew up with her closest friends, competing in clogging competitions throughout the state.
    Laura is preceded in death by her mother, Priscilla Gray; her father, Raymond Ennis; her step-father, Russell Gray; and her grandmother, Opal Warner.
    Survivors include one son, Morgan Dearing (Brittney) of Irvine; one daughter, Kayla Spencer of Winchester; one brother, Ron Gray, and one sister, LeAnn Carrier, both of Taylorsville.
    Survivors also include two grandchildren, Kainen Spencer and Brenton Dearing. Also, four special friends, Darlene Benningfield, Sandra Clark, Kim Kelly and Carolyn Province.
    Services were held Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 1 p.m. with Bro. Joey McClease officiating. Visitation was from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home in Winchester.

    Robert Glenn Overbee, 92, of Clay City, Kentucky, husband of Elsie Mae Neace Overbee, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025 at Clark Regional Medical Center, Winchester.
    He was born June 16, 1932 in Breathitt County, Kentucky to the late Tom and Clemmie Fraley Overbee.
    Survivors include his wife, Elsie Mae Overbee; three sons, Glen Overbee (Juanita), Roger Overbee (Carole), and Robert Overbee Jr.; a daughter, Anna Ware (Eddie); a sister, Francis Hardin; grandchildren, Roy Marganti, Nancy Mann, Jr Ware, Ryan Nolan, Matthew Overbee, Cody Nolan, Lance Overbee, Candace Shepherd, David Marcum, Lua Overbee, and Nova DuPuy; and great grandchildren, Bailey Lynn, Jace Ware, Emma Ware, Will Nolan, Jayden Sampley, Keeley Overbee, Kennedy Nolan ,Lieam Sampley, Chloe Overbee, Abby Nolan, Grayson Shepherd, Gavin Shepherd, Griffyn Shepherd, Kyndall Marcum, Kyle Marcum, Heavenly Overbee, and Crue Overbee.
    Robert was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
    Services will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025, 3 p.m., at Wells Funeral Home by Bro. Paul Day. Visitation will be on Tuesday, 2-3 p.m., at the funeral home.

Gary Arthur Brewer

    Gary Arthur Brewer, age 69, passed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Greenwood Nursing Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
    He was born on August 11, 1955, and adopted by the late Myrtle Mae Brewer. Gary spent his formative years at the Dessie Scott Children’s Home, a place where he found not only shelter but also a loving connection with his beloved momma. She warmly introduced him to the teachings of Jesus and instilled in him the values of a Christian life. Gary had a deep appreciation for Christian music, often singing his cherished favorites, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Jesus Loves Me." He found solace in prayer and looked forward to attending services, where he felt a sense of community and belonging.
    In his leisure time, Gary delighted in watching classic television shows like "I Love Lucy" and "My Three Sons," finding joy and laughter in their timeless humor. A keen observer of the world around him, Gary possessed a remarkable intellect, displaying a natural understanding of right from wrong as well as a knack for mathematics.
    Gary was fiercely protective of those he loved, demonstrating a caring spirit toward family, friends, and even caregivers. His heart was big, and his capacity for love was evident in his everyday interactions. He also had a fondness for food, particularly a hearty meal with a good salad bar and steak and potatoes. Gary also had a sweet tooth, he enjoyed treats like chocolate chip cookies and Hershey kisses.
    Faced with the concept of death, Gary exhibited a remarkable calmness. He often expressed how much he missed his Momma, sharing his longing to reunite with her. With a gentle smile, he would often mention looking forward to also saying hello to Mr. and Mrs. Winchip, the former directors of Dessie Scott, highlighting his enduring connection to the home and people that shaped his life.
    Gary is survived by one sister, Dianne Allen of Portland, Oregon; four sisters-in-Christ, Nellie Anderson, Carol Knox, Wanda Lacy, and Cynthia Grigsby Walling; one niece, Alyson Wortel (Joris); and one great-nephew, Krelis Wortel.
    Visitation will be held from 12 Noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home immediately following at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Dessie Scott Cemetery in Pine Ridge.

Anthony “Tony” Devercelly

    Anthony “Tony” Devercelly, age 64, of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at his residence.
    He was born August 8, 1960, in Chainbridge, England to Edward and Rose Devercelly. He was an Insurance Agent.
    Mr. Devercelly is survived by his wife, Sheila Devercelly; a son, Wayne Devercelly; a daughter, Amy Devercelly; and seven grandchildren, Landon, Emma Jean, Katy, Brittiney, Tray, Gemma, and Luke.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Rose Devercelly; a brother, James Devercelly; and two sisters, Lavina Chavez and Patricia Devercelly.
    Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel in Clay City with Bro. Bill White officiating. Friends visited Sunday from 1 p.m. till time of the service.

Sterling David Lindon

    Sterling David Lindon, beloved husband and father, of Stanton, Kentucky, unexpectedly departed this life Thursday, January 17, 2025 at the age of 56.
    He was the son of the late Sterling Kenneth Lindon and Jean Lindon. David was born on September 29, 1968 in Campton, Kentucky. He was a 1986 Wolfe County High School Graduate. He attended Morehead State University before entering the workforce in construction where he helped build several prisons in Eastern Kentucky. He later began working for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet where he held various positions and eventually retired as Assistant Superintendent of Highways in 2015.
    David enjoyed playing baseball, spending time outdoors and being with his family. He was lifelong supporter of UK Basketball.
    Selena, his wife of 32 years, and his daughter, Allison, were his entire world. They gave him joy and laughter each day of his life as well as the strength he needed during rough times. David had a big heart and cared deeply for those he loved.
    David is survived by his loving wife, Selena Arnett Lindon; his daughter, Allison Lindon (DeWayne Johnson) of Stanton; his mother, Jean Lindon of Campton; his brother, Craig Lindon (Jenny) of Campton; and his sister, Margery Lindon (Jason Gabbard) of Campton; as well as a host of family and friends to mourn his passing.
    He is preceded in death by his father, Sterling Kenneth Lindon, his paternal grandparents, Sterling and Pauline Lindon; and his maternal grandparents, Ova and Roxie Wilson.
    Visitation was held Tuesday, January 21, 2025, beginning at 11 a.m. at Porter & Son Funeral Directors, Campton. Services were held Tuesday, January 21, 2025, beginning at 2 p.m. at the funeral home's chapel with Bro. Brad Epperson officiating. Burial was at Hazel Green Cemetery, Hazel Green, Kentucky.
    Serving as pallbearers were Craig Lindon, Jason Gabbard, Wade Gibbs, Jason Lindon, Lee Picklesimer, DeWayne Johnson.
