Katherine Sue Wiseman Land, 73
|
Katherine Sue Wiseman Land, age 73, of Richmond, Kentucky departed this life suddenly on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at her home. She was born on February 3, 1952, in Irvine, Kentucky to the late Abner Isaac Wiseman and Betty Hardy Wiseman.
Katherine was a graduate of Irvine High class of 1970. After graduating from Eastern Kentucky University, she went on to pursue a career as an accountant. Katherine was an active member of River Drive Christian Church as well as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking for and entertaining her family.
In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Burns; and a brother-in-law, Greg Wood.
Survivors include her loving husband of 31 years, Lowell D. Land; her mother, Betty Hardy Wiseman; two sisters, Linda Wood and Rebecca Newton (Michael); one stepdaughter, Marla Land; three nieces, Donna Oliver, Linda Burns, and Morgan Wood; one nephew, Christopher Newton; and a great niece, Lilee Oliver. All of whom she loved as if they were her own.
A celebration of life service, originally scheduled for Wednesday the 19th, has been canceled due to flooding and approaching snow storm. A rescheduling of the service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Compassionate Care Hospice Center or Hospice Care Plus.

Herbert Daniel Rogers, Jr., age 69, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away on Friday evening, February 14, 2025, at the UK Hospital in Lexington. He was born in Troy, Ohio, on May 3, 1955, the son of the late Herbert, Sr. and Lore Willgoroth Rogers.
“Herbie” as he was known to his family and friends, grew up in the Estill County area and went to Estill County High School. He was a dedicated mechanic having worked for many years with the Estill County Ambulance Service and the Madison County Road Department where he retired in 2020. “Herbie” was a former member of the Estill County Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad and was always looking for ways to help his community. While working was his main “hobby”, he also enjoyed traveling to the beach, going camping and most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Survivors include his soulmate and wife of 50 years, Colleen Freeman Rogers; his children, Michelle Palmer (Stephen) and Herbert Rogers, III (Molly); two brothers, Fred Rogers (Ann) and Gary Rogers (Sharon); his grandchildren, Stephanie Moore (Dustin), Brianna Ackerman (Michael), Adam Palmer, Andrew Palmer, Bethany Rogers, Herbert Rogers IV, Jack Boyd Rogers and Michaela Rogers; two great grandchildren, Jace and Macy Moore; one sister, Carolyn Freeman; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Freeman and Cindy Freeman; one brother-in-law, Daniel Arvin; a special friend, Shane Poff; his pet dog, Daisy and cat, KC; and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Anne-Marie Arvin; and four brothers-in-law, Garry, Danny, Billy and Larry Freeman.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, February 21, 2025, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond. Burial will follow in the Baker Family Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Adam Palmer, Andrew Palmer, Herbie Rogers IV, Jack Rogers, Michael Ackerman, Dustin Moore, Darren Northern, and Brandon Northern.

Johnnie Houston Marcum, age 67, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at his home in Beattyville, Kentucky. He was born October 30, 1957 in Richmond, Kentucky.
Johnnie was an avid antiquer, and in his spare-time, he loved to hunt, and fish. He was a nurse at Lee Adjustment Center for 25 years, a member of the Methodist faith, and a Veteran of the United States Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Marcum, and Joyce Hunter Marcum; and a brother, Rodney Marcum.
Johnnie is survived by his fiancée of 23 years, Joni Hayes; his children, Rachel Burrell (James) of Berea, Tamanya Marcum of McKee, and Jordan Marcum (Miranda) of Irvine; a stepson, Dylan Hayes (Amanda) of Staffordsville; and 12 grandchildren, Logan (Kenzie), Alexus, Aaleigha, Cayden, Peyton, Addisyn, Kennedy, Houston, Cameron, Maliah, Beau, and Langston.
He is also survived by one sister, Javenne Brandenburg (Earl) of Irvine; two brothers, Teddy Marcum (Cindy) of Winchester and Brian Marcum (Lesa) of Booneville; and many special nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 17, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Booneville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held following 1 p.m. with Rev. J. Jamison Brunk officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Marcum Family Cemetery located in Pebworth, Kentucky.

Danny Glenn Neal, age 75, of Red River Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital in Irvine, following a long illness.
He was born May 15, 1949, in Estill County and was the son of the late Grant and Lennie Roberts Neal. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and was retired from the Transamerica Life Insurance Company. He was a member of the Church of Christ and had lived in Estill County all his life.
Mr. Neal is survived by his wife, Brenda Sharon Newman Neal; one daughter, Tammie Neal of Estill County; one son, Anthony G. Neal (Selena) of Estill County; three sisters: Helen Plowman, Lois McClanahan, and Sherry King, all of Estill County;
three grandchildren, Christopher Neal (Savannah), Stevi Neal, and Halee Neal; and two great grandchildren, Brinley Neal and Oaklee Neal.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, February 15, 2025, 11 a.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Terry Ginter officiating. Burial was at the Fielder Cemetery. Visitation was held on Friday, February 14th from 6 to 9 p.m.
Pallbearers were Jerry Plowman, Jamie Newman, Bill McKinney, Andy Alcorn, Mickie Conrad and Montie Vivian.
Honorary pallbearers were Anthony Neal, Christopher Neal, Danny Newman, Harold Alcorn, Gary McClanahan, and Stevie Barnes.
Margaret Sue Arvin, 83

Margaret Sue Arvin, age 83, of Kentucky Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital in Irvine.
She was born March 19, 1941, in Irvine and was the daughter of the late Carlie Durbin and Nancy L. Canter Durbin Johnson. She was a retired hairdresser and attended the River Drive Christian Church. She was a member of the Irvine/Ravenna Kiwanis Club and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
Mrs. Arvin is survived by one daughter, Dena G. Milton of Winchester; one son, Terry W. Arvin (Sharon) of Dandridge, Tennessee; one brother, Charles W. Durbin of Irvine; and three grandchildren, Megan E. Arvin, Caleb S. Arvin, and Julia Milton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Delano Arvin; two sisters, Carlene Durbin Wiseman and Imogene Durbin; and one brother, Malcolm Durbin.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 16, 2025, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Billy Bruce Wiseman officiating. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Pallbearers are Bobby Jack Gross, Caleb Arvin, Trey Wiseman, Hank Wiseman, Jon White, and Danny Woods.
Honorary pallbearers are Jeff Puckett, and the members of the Irvine/Ravenna Kiwanis Club.

The family wants to express special thanks to her niece, Margaret Woods, and nephew, Billy Bruce Wiseman, for their love and care, especially over the last weeks of her life. Also, to recognize a special neighbor, Jeff Puckett, who was always there to help her.

Raymond Harvey Logsdon, age 77, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the Irvine Nursing and Rehabilitation facility.
He was born on July 3, 1947, in Irvine, Kentucky to the late Snowden and Lela Willis Logsdon.
Along with his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by one brother, Hampton Logsdon; and one sister, Wilma Neal.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Brenda Logsdon; two children, Carolyn Mae Barnett and Jeffrey Todd Logsdon; three grandchildren, Jacqueline Puckett (Ronald), Katlyn McDonald (Daniel), and Thomas Barnett (April); eight great grandchildren, Jordan, Penelope, Lucy, Eli, Owen, Riley, Emily and Oliva; one sister-in-law, Mary Logsdon; and numerous nieces and nephews to miss him and mourn him passing.
A private funeral service was held for Raymond Harvey Logsdon in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals with Brother Jerry Rose conducting the service. Interment followed in the Logsdon Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Thomas Barnett; Bradley, Denny, Danny and Matthew Logsdon; Snowden and Travis Rose; and Harold Ray Neal.
Paul Curtis Neikirk, 62

Paul Curtis Neikirk, age 62, of Neikirk Way in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the Marcum and Wallace Hospital in Irvine, following a long illness.
He was born September 7, 1962, in Lynchburg, Virginia, and was the son of the late Raymond Oliver Neikirk and Lena McGee Neikirk. He worked in Elder Care, and he had lived in Estill County for the last 20 years.
Mr. Neikirk is survived by two brothers, Karl Neikirk and
Jeffrey Neikirk, both of Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Brenton Raymond Neikirk.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Judy Garland Helton, 62, of Jeffersonville, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025 at St. Joseph Hospital Lexington, Kentucky.
She was born December 14, 1962 in Paris, Kentucky, to the late David Garland and Helen Graves. She attended Macedonia Baptist Church, loved collecting gnomes and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Helton is survived by her husband, Buddy Helton of Jeffersonville; two sons, Travis Helton (Alysia) of Irvine and Jared Helton (Celica) of Lexington; a daughter, Kendra Hobbs (Steele) of Tyler, Texas; two sisters, Shari Phillips of Winchester and Lori Jones (Jeffrey) of Lexington; and four grandchildren, Kayson Hedger, Kirsa Hedger, Raegan Helton and Nathan Helton.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Trent Helton; a daughter, Kara Helton; and two brothers, David Garland, Jr. and Daniel Garland.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Skidmore officiating and burial following at Lovely Amburgey Cemetery. Visitation was held 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel.

Hiram Douglas Snowden, 93

Hiram Douglas Snowden, 93, of Louisville, Kentucky, died on Monday, February 3, 2025.
Hiram was born in Estill County, Kentucky on July 10,1931 to Hazel Bicknell and Dr. Richard Raymond Snowden. He was raised in Ravenna, Kentucky and spent many enjoyable summers and weekends on the nearby family farm in the Red Lick Creek area of eastern Kentucky. After studying at Transylvania College and Eastern Kentucky State College, he began his career and his family in Richmond, Kentucky in the mid-1950s. While in Richmond, he served in the Kentucky Army National Guard. In the 1960s, Hiram moved his family to Louisville, Kentucky where he eventually founded his own insurance agency, Snowden & Associates, from which he retired in 1987.
Hiram, along with his wife of 40 years (Jamie Brown), enjoyed a long and active retirement. Hiram was an avid sailor, traveler, fly fisherman, hiker and farmer through his late 80s. After retirement, he and Jamie spent three years living aboard their boat, sailing along the full expanse of the eastern US seaboard, as well as traveling to many islands of the Bahamas and the Caribbean. They also enjoyed many adventures exploring and hiking in less traveled areas of the US and the world.
As his traveling days came to an end, Hiram was especially pleased he was able to return to living on the family’s eastern Kentucky farm in the Red Lick Creek area, a place that held the fondest memories of his youth. He and his wife lived in the home in which his father first began the practice of medicine in 1912, and they farmed the family property for another 21 years. He was also an active member of Beargrass Christian Church in Louisville for most of the past 60 years.
In addition to his wife Jamie, Hiram is survived by three sons, Miles (Dorothy), Clark (Julie) and Scott (Deana) Snowden; a stepdaughter, Gail Boone Rowan; and by ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He is predeceased by a stepdaughter, Ann Boone Rich (Ron).
A private, family memorial event is planned.
The family requests donations in Hiram’s memory be directed to Beargrass Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky.

Jason Lee Rogers, age 43, husband of Tammy Rogers of Jeffersonville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025, surrounded by his family at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born in Winchester, Kentucky on May 29, 1981, to the late Jearl Rogers and Kathlene McKinney Rogers.
Jason was a dedicated and loving husband and father who brought warmth and laughter into the lives of everyone around him. His infectious sense of humor and quick wit made him a delight to be with, and he had a knack for brightening any room with his lively personality. With a gift for words, Jason could effortlessly find the perfect thing to say, whether to uplift a friend or to entertain his children. He instilled in his kids the importance of commitment, teaching them that if you were going to do something, you should give it your all—110% effort was his mantra. As a man of honor, Jason proudly served in the United States Navy Reserves, embodying the values of discipline and integrity. He earned a master’s degree in education from the University of the Cumberlands, dedicating himself to shaping young minds as an E.B.D. instructor.
Jason found immense joy in his teaching career, making a meaningful difference in the lives of his students. Beyond the classroom, he was affectionately known as “The Voice of the Pirates,” as he brought excitement to the Powell County boys and girls basketball games with his enthusiastic announcing. Music was another passion of Jason's; an accomplished guitarist, he skillfully played his beloved Les Paul, filling the air with beautiful melodies. As the lead singer for the band Nineteen85, he showcased his talent and charisma on stage, captivating audiences with his performances.
In addition to his musical endeavors, Jason took on the role of a DJ, expertly mixing tracks for weddings, school dances, and proms, creating unforgettable memories for countless people. In his free time, he indulged in his love for super late model dirt track racing, with 191 Speedway being his favorite venue to feel the thrill of competition. Jason was also a competitive weightlifter, showcasing his dedication to fitness and strength. His vibrant life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and passion, leaving a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his father, Jason is preceded in death by two sisters: Pam Helton and Kathy Beach; three nephews: Brian Rogers, Austin Dean Helton, and Aaron Rogers; and a very special friend: Davey Turner.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by one son: Layne Rogers of Jeffersonville; two daughters: Carly Marie Rogers and Taylor Nicole Rogers, both of Jeffersonville; three brothers: Gregory Rogers of Stanton, Michael Rogers (Carrie) of Jeffersonville, and Chris Rogers (Alicia) of Stanton; and two sisters: Beverly Hall (Shane) of Irvine and Angie Lane (Jeff) of Stanton.
Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Powell County High School, 700 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services officiated by Bro. Stephen Donithan will be held at the high school at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025.
Burial will be held at Stonegate Cemetery in Stanton with Anthony Todd, Aaron Branham, Justin Spencer, Jon Hall, Jake Rogers, Kyle Lane, Cameron Beard, and Steve Randall serving as active pallbearers.

Pauline Lane, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stanton, Kentucky. She was born May 24, 1941, to the late Harvey Ballard and the late Dena Bond Ballard.
Pauline cherished her family and radiated warmth and kindness. Her gentle spirit was often complemented by a surprisingly quick wit that brought laughter to those around her. In her youth, Pauline found joy in reading, immersing herself in captivating stories. In her later years, she delighted in the camaraderie of playing Bingo at the nursing center, where laughter and friendly competition filled her days with joy. In addition to her parents,

Maxine Smith, 75

Maxine Smith, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky. She was born on July 28, 1949, to the late Ernest Smith and the late Aileen Hensley Smith.
Maxine was the spirited owner and operator of C and C Trucking, where she reveled in the thrill of maneuvering her impressive big rig along the open roads. Known for her feisty personality, she never hesitated to speak her mind, ensuring her thoughts were always expressed without reservation. Maxine found joy in smoking and sipping on her beloved Pepsi, often enjoying them as she took in the scenery on her long hauls. Her tenacity was evident in the way she faced numerous medical challenges head-on, having overcome two strokes, two brain surgeries, and a heart attack with unwavering strength and resilience.
Maxine had a magnetic personality that drew people in, particularly her family. She thrived on their attention and cherished the lively family gatherings that filled her home with laughter and love. Cooking was another passion of hers, and she took great pride in preparing meals that brought everyone together. Her meatloaf, a family favorite, was often a highlight of these gatherings, filled with hearty flavors and made with love.
In addition to her parents, Maxine is preceded in death by one brother, Forest Smith; three sisters, Sharon Watkins, Faye Caudill, and Wilma Smith; and two great grandchildren, Charles Crabtree Jr. and Trinity Crabtree.
She is survived by two sons, Jeff Watkins (Jessica) of Clay City and J.R. Smith (Amy) of Jeffersonville; five daughters, Bridget Willoughby (Chris) of Jeffersonville, Donna Crabtree of Clay City, Brittany Hoffman (Krystin) of West Virginia, Cathy Dunn (David) of Mt. Sterling, and Carrie Patterson (Brandon) of Clay City; two brothers, Elmer Smith (Sarah) and Kenneth Smith, both of Jackson; three sisters, Rose Nations (Steve) of Winchester, Christine Smith and Wanda Richardson, both of Jackson; 15 grandchildren, Justin Lawson (Elizabeth), Dustin Watkins (Kayla), Jessica Lyle (Matt), Amber Everman (Justin), Chris Crabtree, Darby Crabtree, Austin Willoughby, Landon Smith, Lillie Smith, Noah Hoffman, Isabella Hoffman, Brooke Dunn, Dameon Dunn, Shelby Smith (David), and Brian Dunn (Cassie); and 25 great grandchildren.

Mariam Lee "Mermee" Crowe Todd, age 59, of Clay City, Kentucky, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 13, 1966, to the late Charles Eunice Crowe and Lucy Ann Crowe.
She is survived by her loving husband, Paul Duane Todd; her daughter, Aubrey Crawford (Ethan); her two grandsons, Rowdy and Nash Crawford; and her two sisters, Jo and Angelyn Crowe. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who adored her.
Mariam is also preceded in death by her beloved brother, Robert "Bruce" Crowe.
Mariam dedicated 31 years of her life to the Powell County School System, where she served in a multitude of roles and touched the lives of countless students and colleagues. She was deeply committed to her family and friends, and her love for them was fierce and unwavering. Above all, Mariam cherished her roles as a Christian, wife, mother, and Nana. In her free time, Mariam loved working on her farm and attending car shows with her husband, Paul. The bond they shared over the past 43 years was one of deep and unshakable love. Mariam will be fondly remembered for her kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to those she cherished.
In lieu of a traditional funeral, a memorial service to honor and celebrate Mariam’s life will be held at a later date, with family and close friends.

Audrey Tolson, 77, Clay City, Kentucky, wife of James Roy Tolson, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.
She was born January 11, 1948 in Martin, Kentucky to the late Seman and Gladys A.F. Print Samons.
Survivors include her husband, James Roy Tolson; five brothers, Larry Samons, Jacob "G.J." Samons (Irene), Barry Samons (Donna), John Samons (Ruth Tucker), and Gary Samons (Wendy); three sisters, Connie Tucker, Pamela Murphy, and Annette Mullins (Eddie); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Michael Kent Tolson.
Services were held Friday, February 14, 2025, 1 p.m., at Wells Funeral Home in Stanton, by Bro. Marlin Fannin. Visitation was held Friday, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Burial was in Powells Valley Cemetery, Clay City with family serving as pallbearers.
